"Could be the son of Pinocchio..." LOL A little insight by Ray Paulick into the Japanese racing mindset.
Good read.
“They've learned. They've studied. There's a science behind what they do and training is statistically driven,” said Summers. “They weigh their horses every day. Everything is monitored: heart rate, stride analysis. There is such pride in that nation to be successful. Every time they ship horses around the world, they learn more and more.”

this was excellent. These people are doing things right, honestly, dilligently and in earnest.
(instead of spending time figuring out how to cheat.) Their learning will pay off. It already has.

And if they pull it off and win this year, that also makes the Godolphin people look silly. Sheikh Mo always wanted to with the Derby the way he wins all the other big races -- by having his best horses train in Dubai in the winter. That may have worked for the 2000 Guineas, Epsom Derby, Royal Ascot, Arc de Triomphe, etc, but so far has been a big dud for the Roses.
So now here are the Japanese doing it their way -- their own bloodlines (by picking up stallions the short-sighted Americans passed over), train them at home, ship out and win everything. So almost like the Godolphin program... and wouldn't it be fitting if they do it using Godolphin's own prep race, one that Sheikh Mo wrote FOR HIS HORSES to use.

It's haram in the Quran to drink liquor but the Sheik might make an exception if the Japanese beat him to the Roses using the UAE Derby to do it. :-D

I don't know if this is still how they do it but although Dubai has no legal "lotteries" they sure do a lot of raffle draws for prizes (usually cars) where the tickets aren't cheap. Uh, that sounds like lottery to me.

Where there's a will, there's a way - as the old saying goes.
It's like Japan's pachinko parlors. Gambling for cash is illegal in Japan so they get around that prohibition circuitously by using tokens which can be sold for cash at aonther venue associated with the pachinko parlors and then the tokens are sold back to the parlors.
The Japanese love to gamble and the estimate converted from yen to USD is 300 billion USD at its height.
Where there's a will...there's a way.

and to be really technical about it, being in the racing game (or any other "investment" scheme) is gambling. You're putting in a small amount of money hoping to win back a lot more. Always think stock market/crypto wiseguys are hypocrites when they look down their noses at sports/horse bettors, poker players, etc. It's all gambling.
MAYBE the Godolphin people treat it like a hobby and don't care how much money they lose. But the vast majority of participants in the game are in it to turn a profit.
