Now, as seemingly pointless as it is, I still maintain that it's both fun and sporting to imagine a top 20 this early in the season.  Yes, we haven't even seen the best, have no idea who will stay healthy, and in the best years, our top 20's generally only contain 6 or 7 that even make into the gate.  All this notwithstanding, I still present you with my first list!

1) Catholic Boy

2) Solomini

3) Bolt d'Oro

4) Principe Guilherme

5) Montauk

6) Mendelssohn

7) McKinzie

8) Avery Island

9) Alkhaatam

10) Combatant

11) Enticed

12) Dak Attack

13) Marconi

14) Firenze Fire

15) Gracida

16) Tap Rap Strike

17) Vouch

18) Seven Trumpets

19) Mask

20) Sporting Chance

I invite you all to submit your own top 20's!

there is some very interesting 2 yr old beyer numbers on the drf 2 yo leader board at 8.5 f

and longer... 12/31/ 17. thats what i look at until the others stretch out at 3 yr olds.
a good sign is if the individule horse's  route numbers are higher or equal to their sprint numbers
to seperate routers from sprinters, a good angle

Yes!  A More Than Ready exacta!?!

I didn't include any up top on my list who haven't been seen in a while.....have you heard anything about Copper Bullet?  Hasn't worked since the Aug. win, usually means something is wrong :(

Copper Bullet was hurt, but it was thought to be serious. They decided they would shut him down and shoot for the TC prep races in his soph season. I hope to see him begin to work out soon.

Btw, there was another More Than Ready that I wanted to add(Grandpa Knows Best), but he just barely missed the early cut. It won't take much for him to get added when the 2018 races begin to be contested.

My feeling exactly about Grandpa....need him to show just a bit more to make the top 20.  Did you mean that Copper Bullet was NOT seriously hurt, or was?  If not, I will definitely be looking for works leading up to a prep.  He'll need to get a 2 two turn race in, and he probably needs at least a month of works, leaving him with only 2 races up to the Derby, if entered in Feb.  I'll cross my fingers with you!  And he's still a great price in the futures....

I'd like to see Quality Road get one of his into the gate for the KD this year.  I was a big fan while Jimmy Jay had him before he was snatched away and sent to Teflon..

Steve, Happy holidays,

i don't know which one is a QR, but i agree with you, it would be nice.

what caught my eye on this year end 2 yr old leaderboard for top beyers numbers

is how many were 90 beyer or better at 8.5f or longer. seems like a high number this year.

old historical guideline for derby winners a 92 or better beyer at 2 years old at any distance.

This could be a good group with this many with a good stretch out possibility.  good luck

Same to you & yours, my friend.   Healthy & happy.  :)

The one that comes to mind (because he won the 7f. Malibu on 12/26/17 in 1:21 & change ) is City Of Light.   He looked good all the way around the track, IMO.   Nice, efficient stride.

If you missed it, take a look.
