I just read a very good blog post about Gun Runner, that made me teary eyed, because I will really miss his presence on the track.  And remember how a few of us had booked him for the KY Derby winner the year he ran.

The way the writer described him was a throwback horse.  In a day where many horses are "too valuable to race" and get sent to breeding shed early on and taken out of racing.  (GR was a gelding).

Gun Runner is a horse who showed up to every dance, gave his best in every race, he was good, and then he got great.  A hard working horse who stayed in the game.  He could hang with routers, but he proved he could hang with sprinters, too.

I only wish there was going to be progeny.  I was not a huge Steve Asmussen fan, but Gun Runner really changed that for me. He did a great job with that horse!
