I just saw Don Corleone, the pricey MTR colt run his second race. He challenged a Baffert colt on the front end, then tired badly. It was a better effort than his debut at least.
Just found out that when he ran so impressively at the sales, resulting in his 1.2 million price tag, it was on an artificial surface. He might wind up on the turf before long. He is such a big, imposing figure, that I have to believe he will have some success at some point.

That colt was initially hip auction purchased @ $120,000
Maybe he ate 10 times the money on his his feed tub. Said kiddingly.
My hoofnote to me is never overlook the likes of say a 2nd highest odds paying Derby 2022 winner claimed in his 2nd maiden, by Trainer who is owner as well, for $30K. Now at $20K stud @ 125 covers. For $30K claim tag.
Maximum Security 1st race $16K claimer. And someone claimed another colt out of this race.
Seattle Slew looked like an awkward shaggy haired donkey. $30K @ auction. Looked like he couldn't stand up on dirt.

I Wish Shah would quit using Peter Miller for a trainer, you never know what will happen with him.
On turf makes sense to me, Many trainers never gave MTR progeny a shot on turf like the over Seas trainers did.

Has anybody seen the Derby Winner this year, I haven't and its almost March?
I never even start to look til after ARK Derby runs. Not because that race itself is potent, but because it's sort of my "signal" that it's just the DATE, i.e. time to start thinking about horses who might make the gate and be potent.
Not playing the Derby again this year though, but will have fun capping it and talking about it.

MTR progeny should be given a chance on both surfaces. If they don’t well on one, they may thrive on the other. His runners are versatile. They do both, or one or the other.

I suspect he grew quite a bit between 1 and 2, then ran that :9 3/5 1/8. He is a beautiful looking horse. A real “black beauty”!

March 1 is when many show up from their hibernation and some have an Idea who they like
and share their ideas with others, and by this time I have 2 or 3 target 's I'm interested in.
This year I have nothing, In January each year I have 2 or 3 two yr olds I really like, They
are not doing any works and the hype for the Risen Star pre race was ridiculous and the ones on my list
ran like 7f slow types and none of those were near the top of my list of probs for Classic distances
carrying 126 pounds on the first Saturday in May.
Its good to hear you will share your ideas for the TC trail, whether you play it or not, I always look for your Input.

For human children
Lasix may be given once per day up to 3 times daily.
For a verified MEDICAL CONDITION. which cannot be corrected using lifestyle interventions/changes.
Sort of the way most were against Baffert giving Thyro-L to horses with no thyroid disease and no medical reason for doing so. Basically this was experimentation on perfectly healthy animals, which is just flat out wrong, from not only a medical/scientific standpoint, but a moral/ethical one as well.
There is absolutely zero reason to shoot up every horse before a race, since most of the rest of the world doesn't not do it.
If a horse is a bleeder then they can try to overcome with good horsemanship, and if that fails, then they are found other careers that do not promote bleeding as is done in Hong Kong, etc.
Sort of like smaller humans are not given growth hormones so they can fulfill their parent's pipe dreams of becoming 6'8" basketball players

I like to predict the Derby possibilities well ahead of the preps.....I get that Winter prefers to wait until the preps are run, you certainly get a better idea of who is capable. But that's a different game; that's predicting the race, or creating your stable, from the horses who you already know are qualified .
I like to guess who will qualify! I'm wrong most of the time, but occasionally I hit a good one. Most of the time it is a favorite, but sometimes I get lucky with a shot. We'll see how Verifying does in the Rebel this weekend.....I have him at 80-1.
As for your question as anyone seen the winner of the Derby yet, I think there's a good chance that Arabian Knight wins the Derby this year, so for me, the answer is yes!
