I am luv 7 from Sheepgate. Can someone help me?  There is a man who keeps coming into Sheepgate and advertising under different alias's. I have deleted and deleted. I have sent two names to you, but there are SO many. If you go to the member name list you will see them and see how he updates his name every couple of minutes. He is very slick. How can I block this man? I don't see blocking on my list anymore.  Click on the visitor list on the start page and you will see it. The visitor lists him as:

Hi - I've removed the name from your post, so as not to give this spammer publicity.

The best suggestion I can give you, is to put your forum on moderation. Grant Voice to your regulars, and this spammer's messages will be caught in the moderation queue, where you can delete them without them ever seeing the light of day. Once he realizes his messages aren't going through, it will very likely discourage him.

Many forums use moderation to eliminate trouble and spammers. It only takes a few seconds a day to check your moderation queue and release messages from new visitors, and you can grant them Voice at the same time.

Do you need step-by-step instructions on how to put your forum on moderation and to grant Voice?

The spammer knows your forum is not on moderation and there is nothing to stop him. Repeaters like that know how to change their IPs and email addresses and can open new accounts easily.

Set the forum to all messages from new posters being moderated, give Voice to your regular posters and they won't notice any difference since their messages go right through.  Simply delete unwanted messages in moderation without mentioning anything in the forum and the posts will stop.

let us know if you need more help with this ...

Have you all taken the blocking privileges away?     Yes, it would help me if you gave me the instructions. Thanks.

Start in your Controls, Forum Management, and mark 'All messages will be moderated'. Submit.

Then in Forum Management, Set Privileges, on the bottom press 'Grant Voice to All'.  All your recent posters will have their messages go through as before.

Now ever so often - once a day or more if you have lots of new members coming in - open the Forum Moderation page to see if there are new messages waiting to be approved, or simply deleted without ever showing up in the forum itself.

let us know how it goes ...

i have a related problem. My forum, Serenity Island is supposed to be on Moderation. I did the above steps several months ago
However, two people have come on without voice and they were people i knew so i gave them voice, and a spammer has recently come on without having his post caught in the moderation cue.

The moderation does not seem to work well and there is a person who likes to irritate members and who makes up new identities -the original is locked out but there are several new identities and for whatever reason they have not tried (so the moderation works for them??) when we  check the moderation there is never anything to be moderated.

getting old members back is fine but we should not be getting spam in the moderated forum.

Let me ask staff to pop in and see if the moderation is set up properly.

@gunter @walthowe could one of you take a peek.
