Singer was a founding member of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash
David Crosby, whose soaring harmonies with two different iconic bands elevated him to musical stardom in the 1960s even as his famously volatile temper often fractured relations with his bandmates, has died at the age of 81, his family said.
A statement from Crosby's wife released to Variety magazine confirmed the musician's death "after a long illness" and said that he had died "lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django."

RIP
It's more than evident that Crosby was a musical genius, but he was also an extremely influential – not to mention charismatic - figure in the counter-cultural movement of the 60s. He was unaplogetically outspoken when it came to politics and devoted much of his time, money, and energy to raising awareness for various humanitarian issues. In this fact-packed video, we'll pay homage to one of music's most beloved icons. David Crosby may be gone, but he will never be forgotten.
