Even Sodom
(En Español)

"He then began to denounce the cities in which most of His miracles were done, because they did not repent" (Matt. 11:20).

Jesus has a word to say, not only to us as individuals, but to entire cities as well. In anger He rebuked Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum (Matt. 11:21, 23). With tears He wept over Jerusalem (Luke 13:34). If He expected cities to repent in the first century, He expects cities today to repent as well.

It was in this very context of reproving cities, however, that Jesus made a statement which, to me, unveiled the scope of God's redemptive power. Listen to His rebuke, but also to its hidden promise.

He said, "For if the miracles had occurred in Tyre and Sidon which occurred in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes" (Matt. 11:21).

Tyre and Sidon were Gentile cities known for their debauchery and sin. Yet Jesus said that His life, revealed in power, can bring even the vilest of cities -- places that ought to be destroyed -- to "sackcloth and ashes." The strategy, therefore, to turn our cities back toward God is for the church to reveal Christ's life in power. Yes, the revelation of Christ living, loving and healing the world around us can turn our worst cities back toward God!

Today, many cities are ripe for revival. What hinders the turning of the people's hearts? Part of the answer lies with the church, with our sins of self-righteousness, indifference and unbelief. The Lord said if His people would humble themselves and pray, seek His face and turn from evil, He would then heal their land (2 Chron. 7:14). The future does not belong to the world; it belongs to the transformed church. Indeed, let us never forget: God "desires all men to be saved" (1 Tim. 2:4). With this in mind, Paul taught that entreaties and prayers should be made on behalf of all men, "for kings and all who are in authority" (1 Tim. 2:1-4). The sacrifice of Christ provides for the salvation of all men. Heaven waits only for the church to act.

One may say, "But, that was then. Our cities are worse. They are beyond redemption." Not so. Jesus continued His rebuke of cities, saying, "If the miracles had occurred in Sodom which occurred in you, it would have remained to this day" (Matt. 11:23). Amazingly, when Christ is manifested in power, Jesus said even Sodom could find repentance!

I have heard ministers compare Los Angeles or New York to Sodom. Fine. These cities have seen hell, now let the church show them Heaven. The promise of Christ is that even Sodom could find repentance in the atmosphere and revelation of Christ's power. If there is hope for Sodom, there is hope for our cities as well!

When the Many Are One

How the Christian community - driven by grace, unified in love, and activated by prayer - can bring revival and change the world.

Our best efforts will not stop the flood of problems in our cities if we remain isolated from each other. In a season when external forces are causing disunity and division, Francis Frangipane calls us back to oneness with Christ, and through Him oneness with other Christians. With the character and power of Christ in our midst, the Church can again bring transformation to our communities, our nation, and our world.

The Power of a Unified Church - Audio Series

Christ-centered unity among Christians is the missing component for national revival. How can we make that statement? It comes from Jesus Himself, who prayed "that [we] may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me" (John 17:21). Again, Jesus said a house divided can't stand. We should have variety, but without division, living as people who love God and are known for their love for one another. Unity in the church is the door to revival in the world.

Legal Protection
(En Español)

Approximately two thousand years ago a decree was issued at the judgment seat of Almighty God. It provided "legal" protection for the church against the devil. Indeed, when Jesus died for our sins, the "ruler of this world" was judged (John 16:11). Our debts were nailed to Christ's cross and canceled; principalities and powers were disarmed. In truth, because of Jesus, we have a legal right not only to be protected from our enemy but to triumph over him (Col. 2:13-15).

Having said that, we must also acknowledge that the church has only rarely walked in such victory since the first century. Why? At least in part, the answer is this: to attain the protection of Christ, the church must embrace the intercession of Christ. We must become a house of prayer.

He Will Make a Way
(En Español)

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:6-7).

The Lord doesn't want us to simply possess a generalized peace, based on having no particular problems; nor does He plan to give us a slightly spiritual, yet human-sized kind of peace. If we follow the sequence of obedience He presents, His intention is to shelter us in His very own peace: the imperturbable peace of God.

The peace of God is the deep calm that envelops the thought processes of the Almighty. He is never anxious, always in command, never without a remedy. He sees the end from the beginning and views the needs of man from the position of unlimited resources and capabilities. He perceives the needs of His children with both compassion and confidence, for all things are possible for Him.

The peace He gives is not only from Him, it is an extension of Him -- it is the very substance of His peace. It is God-sized peace. It is this divine fabric that He says will "guard [our] hearts and . . . minds in Christ Jesus."

Amazing.

Give Peace a Chance
Some may challenge my interpretation, but remember the Savior's promise: "Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful" (John 14:27).

Again, Paul says, "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful" (Col. 3:15).

These Scriptures, and many like them, reveal that there exists a place of refuge for us, a dimension guarded by God's very peace, where we can abide. As we enter this realm of trust, the God of peace will actually crush Satan beneath our feet (Rom. 16:20).

Of course, we must decide what realm shall preside over us. Thus, the Scripture says, "Let the peace of Christ rule," and "do not let your heart be troubled," and "let your requests be known to God." The word let speaks of choices we can make with realities that are at hand. Remember, even as circumstances begin to trouble your heart, you can retreat from fear. For the peace of God is also accessible. Take authority over your fretting, worrying attitude, for "it leads only to evildoing" (Ps. 37:8). Stand, instead, in faith upon the promises of God.

You see, we are at war and we must gird ourselves for battle. We must see peace as our shield and the Word of God our weapon. Therefore, capture negative, unbelieving thoughts that would magnify problems rather than magnify the Lord. Our Father knows what we have need of before we ask Him (Matt. 6:8).

Finally, we must "cease striving," so we can know that He is God (Ps. 46:10)! If you are weary, come to Him and take His yoke upon you. You will find rest for your soul (Matt. 11:28-29).

Let us, therefore, cast our burdens upon the Lord, for He indeed cares for us. And for all those struggling with anxiety: He will make a way.

The Transcendent Life of God

The Gifts and Callings
It is to our shame in the West that many of our seminaries do not focus on becoming Christlike. Instead it seems many devote themselves primarily to theology and hermeneutics. Obviously, we need correct biblical knowledge, but even more do we need conformity to Christ. Even in our churches we labor to see people released in "their gifts," and truly may we never stop! But let us not neglect the more foundational work of seeing Christ's likeness structured and then manifest into the congregational consciousness and attitude.

Let's look a little closer at the reality of our calling. Recall that Paul taught the gifts and calling of God were "without repentance" (Rom. 11:29 KJV). The apostle was writing about Israel and the irrevocable place she has in God's future. Yet the principle of which he speaks is true for us as well: God's calling on our lives, and His gifts, remain living realities independent of our state of heart. The gifts and calling of God exist "without repentance."

Here's what I mean: A pastor can still preach and even inspire a congregation though he is living in serious sin. His "calling" is not dependent upon the current state of his righteousness. A worship leader that commits adultery Saturday night still may stir a congregation Sunday morning because his gift still works "without repentance" of his sin. The evangelist that weeps as he saves souls, even after he spent the night drunk, thinks that God has excused his lawlessness. Yet, even while the Holy Spirit is outwardly working through the minister's gifts, the man or woman may actually be in grave spiritual danger. For after he has preached to others, he himself might be disqualified (1 Cor. 9:27). Sadly, we have all seen gifts and callings remain functional even though individuals led double lives with hearts that were trapped in sin.

The fact that the gifts and calling of God operate somewhat independent of our character tells us that God will use imperfect people. But we still must beware. A day may come when we look to our gifts or ministry and plead, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?" But Christ will not have it. Instead, He will utter those most terrible words: "I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness" (Matt. 7:22-23).

You see, our gifts are necessary and understanding our calling is vital. Yet attaining the nature of Christ is the absolute most important part our destiny.

Beloved, as we approach the end of the age, a new priority is coming to God's people: the summing up of "all things in Christ" (Eph. 1:10). Both our gifts and our calling must serve our destiny, which is to reveal the nature of Christ. The focus that brings meaning and fulfillment is that which works to conform us inwardly to Christ. Our lives are to become "a fragrance of Christ to God" (2 Cor. 2:15). Yes, the path to Christlikeness is the way to the transcendent life of God.

There are qualities of heart that actually attract the pleasure of God. If we possess unoffendable faith in our pursuit of Christ's likeness; if we walk humbly with our God; if we position ourselves in the intercessor's gap; and if we abide in Christ-centered unity with the local body of Christ -- we will attract the pleasure of God, and when we awaken His pleasure, His power soon follows. Possessing the Mind of Christ
(En Español)

To See as Jesus Sees
"He who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ" (1 Cor. 2:15-16).

This is one of the most staggering statements made in the New Testament. Paul says that it is actually possible to be free of our carnal, jealous, fearful, unbelieving thought-life and, in its place, possess "the mind of Christ"!

This promise is wonderfully profound. Indeed, it is one thing to be taught edifying principles and truths about the Lord, yet quite another to actually posses the very thought-life of Christ! Listen to what Paul says:

"For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received . . . the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God" (1 Cor. 2:11-12).

To be born again is to be born of the very Spirit of God, that Spirit that searches the depths of God. A spiritual man is one in whom God’s Spirit rules in Christ-like ascendancy in their thought life. Paul tells us that a spiritual man can discern or appraise "all things."

It is unfortunate that some versions translate "appraises" with the word judges. Some Christians have actually used the word judges as a green light to become judgmental, which they associate with being spiritual. God does not want us to be judgmental; He wants us to be prayer-mental, listening Godward before we speak our thoughts. Indeed, a spiritual man is one who has renounced a judgmental attitude and, in its place, he possesses a redemptive attitude, which is the mind of Christ.

How does Jesus view life? How does He look at the imperfections of our world? Paul tells us in Philippians 2:5-8. He writes,

"Have this attitude (KJV: "mind") in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God . . . emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."

Christ's attitude was simple. He saw the fallen, rebellious condition of mankind and then did everything necessary to redeem it. Although the world deserved judgment, He "did not come to judge the world, but to save the world" (John 12:47). And with this very same motive to spread redemption, He sends us, even as "the Father has sent [Him]" (John 20:21).

Christ saw the need of the world and emptied Himself to meet it. He gave up all that was His in the Godhead -- His privileges, powers and position as the very form of God -- and took the form of man. Then He humbled Himself further, remaining obedient to death in order to secure our eternal redemption. This is the new mind that we have in us; it is the mind "which was also in Christ Jesus."

The moment we accept that we are called to lay down our lives for the sake of spreading divine redemption, we are beginning to understand what it means to posses the mind of Christ. The spiritual man sees both the need in the world and the answer, and he is willing to be a bridge to complete redemption. The spiritual man possesses discernment, not faultfinding. Knowing God's grace toward himself, the discerning man or woman will pay the price to see freedom come to others.

Beloved, if your motive is love, if you are guided by hope, if you desire to possess Christlikeness, if you love humility and walk with an unoffendable heart, you will certainly find the thought-life of God. You are en route to possessing the mind of Christ.

Lord Jesus, how much I want to think like You. Lord, to possess Your mind and be moved by Your motives. Grant, Master, that I would receive in a greater way Your character that I might know the thoughts of God toward the world around me. For Your glory I pray. Amen.

Amen.

Standing Behind Our Wall
(En Español)

The sense of distance we often feel between Christ and ourselves is an illusion. As we enter the days prior to Christ's Second Coming, the Lord shall begin to remove that falsehood. Indeed, He promises, "In that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you" (John 14:20).

Scripture tells us that Christ is the vine; we are the branches. He is the head; we are His body; He is the Lord, and we are His temple. From start to finish, the Bible declares the Lord not only has a dwelling in Heaven, but that He also abides perpetually in redemptive union with His people. The ever-present focus of His activity is to guide us into oneness with Himself.

Thus, for all that the Holy Spirit has come to establish in our lives, whether through gifts, virtue or power, His highest purpose is to lead us into the presence of Jesus. The Holy Spirit labors ceaselessly to establish intimacy between ourselves and the Lord Jesus. Someone once said that intimacy means "into-me-see." Intimacy means secrets shared. The Father sees us in secret; He establishes within us the "secret place of [His] presence" (Ps. 31:20).
This union with Christ lifts us higher to a personal, rather than merely academic, relationship with God’s Word. We hear the Shepherd's voice speaking to our spirits, bringing comfort, correction and direction (John 10:27). Not only are we privileged to know Christ's teachings, but as we grow, we also discern the tone of His voice in His instruction. This is heart-to-heart intimacy.

Listen to His wonderful promise:
"I am the good shepherd, and I know My own and My own know Me, even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep" (John 10:14-15).

Jesus says, "I know My own and My own know Me." How intimate is this relationship? Scripturally the union between Christ and our hearts is of the same quality as His union with the Father. He says it is "even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father."

Beloved, let us make it our life's quest to know Him. Let us not accept the illusion that He is distant from us, for He Himself promised, "Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age" (Matt 28:20).

Lord Jesus, in the deepest way possible I desire to know You, even at the depth that You have known me. Fill my emptiness with Your presence and my darkness with Your light. Draw me into moment-by-moment intimacy with You. Amen

I Will Be Found by You

Perhaps this compilation of select teachings from Pastor Francis--some of which are old; many are new -- will become his most important book yet. The essence of I Will Be Found by You is a living promise from God. If we seek Him in earnest, He has purposed to reveal Himself in ways that will transform us and impact the world around us. In truth, when we consider the extent of impossible conflicts in our world, only one remedy exists: we must have more of God! If you desire more of God's presence in your life, more of God you shall certainly have. This is a very inspiring book.
