Honoring Mother Earth

Earth Day (or days) keeps getting longer. The
celebration at Modesto Junior College started
in March and gets even bigger this weekend
with the city of Modesto holding its annual
celebration in Graceada Park and the Great
Valley Museum having its spring open house.
MJC chips in with its continuing art show on both
campuses and a Native American Pow Wow
on Sunday. MJC's biggest event will be the
Earth Day Fair on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 4
p.m. on the East Campus Quad and in the
student center lounge. The Graceada Park
celebration Saturday features music from top
local bands: Flying Blind, Hollopoynt and
Double Take. There also will be police K-9 and
karate demonstrations. The museum calendar
starts at 10 a.m. and includes live animal shows
at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Youngsters also will be
able to make bird feeders and fossil
