Scalia leads Columbus Day parade in New York
Tuesday, October 11, 2005

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia served as the grand marshal of New York City's Columbus Day parade on Monday.

Scalia wore a sash but few recognized him, The New York Times reported. "Who's that guy?" one man asked. "I don't know who he is. But he's Italian, so that's good," another said.

Scalia was asked about nominee Harriet Miers but refused to answer questions and told his security detail to move reporters out of the way, The Times reported. "I feel wonderful," said as he walked the streets.

Scalia is the first Italian-American on the court. He almost always votes against tribes in Indian law cases.
