The American Indian Movement of Florida (Florida AIM) and its support groups and supporters will hold a rally demanding the protection and preservation of an Indigenous cemetery in Saint Augustine, Fl.
Florida AIM asks for human beings to join us at 1:30 near the cross, marking the spot of the invasion of Ponce De Leon on San Marcos in downtown Saint Augustine, just north of the Castillo De San Marcos and Ripley's on the east side of San Marcos.
In order to respect the living, one must respect those who have gone before. In Florida development combined with grave robbers have desecrated hundreds of Indigenous cemeteries throughout the state. No other human beings have to be concerned with their ancestors grave sites being desecrated for development, desecrated for science, desecrated for profit, desecrated for hobbies or for any other reason. Its time that the dominant society begin showing respect to Native peoples.
Florida AIM has long defended Indigenous cemeteries from Crystal River in 1986 to Moog Midden in 1995 and Bonita Springs in 1997 the struggle has continues. Florida AIM will not tolerate the desecration of an Indigenous cemetery and we call upon human beings to join us.
