Ceremony honors Umatilla soldier killed in IraqFriday, February 23, 2007
An honoring ceremony was held on the Flathead Reservation in Montana for Lucas T. White, a 28-year-old member of the Umatilla Tribes of Oregon who was killed in Iraq last November.
White, who left behind a wife, was killed in Baghdad while leading a striker patrol. He had previously served a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
"He could have gotten out after Afghanistan but he went back. He was a beautiful young man, and he was a brave warrior," Five Crows, White's grandfather, told The Missoulian.
White grew up in Oregon and Washington and had family at Flathead. His mother and stepfather live on the reservation.
