Ceremony marks anniversary of Lori Piestewa's death
Friday, March 23, 2007

A ceremony was being held this morning to honor Lori Piestewa, the Hopi woman who died in action in Iraq.

Piestewa died when her unit came under attack on March 23, 2003. Some of her fellow soldiers, including Jessica Lynch, her best friend, survived.

Lynch, along with fellow unit members Shoshana Johnson, Joseph Hudson and Patrick Miller, were set to attend the memorial at Piestewa Peak in Phoenix. The peak was renamed in honor of Piestewa.

Today's events also include a gourd dance for veterans and a reception and candlelight vigil.

There was an item in the Honolulu Advertiser that Jessica Lynch had attended Lori's memorial.

That was nice. One of the dead from her unit was from here and we covered his death.

Jessica Lynch has said all along that she felt that she should not be the one getting so much of the national attention; she feels that it should be Lori getting the attention.

Sweet thoughts. They are both warriors in my humble opinion.

How is the land of abundant sunshine?

Oh, it's beautiful in the land of abundant sunshine.

I bought a digital camera about 2 months ago and am taking pictures like crazy. So much beautiful scenry to take pictures of.

I am so much more observant than before getting the camera and notice so much more in the way of details. Small things and big things that I would not have paid attention to before.

I also bought a new computer; one of the software packages I had put on it is desktop publislhing (Microsoft Office Publisher 2007). I have been making note cards with some of the pictures I've taken.

The priest at the Catholic cathedral near where I live wants to put one of my cards for sale in the church's gift shop. On the front of the note card is a photo of the front of the church; inside the front cover is the inside of the church; then there's a blank page for writing a note; the back of the card has a photo of the back of the church. It turned out very nice. I will give him a trial-run of 20 cards with envelopes to see how well it does. If it does well, then I have a price estimate from a printer and the priest can order a larger quantity. The proceeds will go to the church and this will give me some exposure.
