Subject: OK...U NDNS!! U WANNA TALK THE TALK? COME WALK THE WALK.....
Body: [repost..please]

November 16th has been set aside as Oklahoma Statehood day...Oklahoma's Centennial Celebration....

The Oklahoma Indians Survival Walk and Protest is scheduled for 8:00 am on November 16, 2007 . NE 16th and Lincoln...

This activity will counter the Oklahoma Centennial Celebrations because we, as Oklahoma American Indians, do not want our people to forget what happened to our ancestors nor can we let others across the nation lose sight of the real history of Oklahoma Indians and Indian Territory .

Oklahoma was set aside as Indian Territory...FOR INDIAN PEOPLE!..and was eventually "stolen" back..Celebrate 100 years of the theft of Indian Lands? Heck no! Oklahoma means LAND OF THE REDMAN...!

The Oklahoma's Centennial celebration includes a "MOCK WEDDING" between Miss Indian Territory and Mr Oklahoma...this is an embarassment to me, as a Native Woman. "As if" the joining of the two was consentual...More like a shotgun wedding after a violent rape!

I want to thank all of you who have responded and volunteered to help...BE THERE AT 8AM...we will need help setting up...Also bring chairs and water...(we are seeking donations of water) We have a full day coming together....yes, it sez 9-12..but we are going on as long as the people want...BRING YOUR ELDERS! BRING YOUR YOUNG! (Those are our two most valuable commodities...)

I AM SOO PROUD OF ALL OF YOU WHO ARE COMING!!! IT GOES TO SHOW THAT YOU ARE REALLY DOWN FOR OUR PEOPLE...AND DO NOT NEED TO BE PAID TO STAND UP AND SHOW YOUR PRIDE!!! LIKE I SAID....
U WANNA TALK THE TALK? NOW IS THE TIME TO COME WALK THE WALK.....

THERE IS POWER IN NUMBERS!!!!

I AM NOT GOOD WITH WORDS BUT I WILL LEAVE YOU WITH THE WISE WORDS OF SOME GREAT PEOPLE I HAVE A LOT OF RESPECT FOR:

Some leaders of the state's 37 recognized tribes have applauded the idea of an organized independent centennial statement. Jim Gray, the principal chief of the Osage Nation, said his tribe of 16,000 chose not to participate in official centennial events.

"I encourage other tribes to hold their own version of commemorative events, so you can say who you are," he said.

Right on sisters. So called "tribal leaders," many of them corrupted by casino money, will participate in the centennial because they have learned to be lap dogs of the state of Oklahoma. But there are many of us who are well-educated, and see that the state of Oklahoma still refuses to recognize the contributions of native people. Mock wedding indeed, with a Miss Indian territory and Mr. Oklahoma? Wonder how many "Indian princess" stories that will spawn? Why not reenact the murder of hundreds of Land Run participants by the Sooners who jumped the line and cheated on the cheaters? And while they are at it, reenact the Oklahoma history of the theft of billions of barrels of oil by greedy oil barons whose families still enjoy the benefits of that theft. You go girls, and know that I will be there in spirit.

It would be like asking America to celebrate the defeat of Viet Nam. To re-enact the Americans climbing aboard helecopters to escape the Viet Cong. Sounds ridiculous I know. It is ridiculous. Face it, it was a terrible time in history for Native Americans. It is no time for us to celebrate.
The state could have saved itself a bitter pill to swallow by aknowledging the crimes against the Indian. Maybe, just maybe apologizing for misdeeds. Maybe that is just ridiculous too?

I won't celebrate the theft of Oklahoma. I'm proud to be an Oklahoman, but not for the way our state was created. The Land Run is one of the most hurtful things to see glorified.

Think about it for just a second. Those were not unassigned lands. That was Indian territory stolen from Indian people. The truth is the truth is the truth; and no amount of celebrating will change that. The state could make ammends But, that would first be admitting a crime had been committed. This can be the day the state cleansed itself or the day it continues to disrespect Indian people. You choose.
