Raven Comes Calling!
Shhhh, it is time gather near, listen children try not to fear, Raven flies close this night
lace the doorways very tight, blood moon calls him close, that witch who honors nothing
that Creator made, as the fog grows thicker he grows bolder.
All know the story of that spirit drinker, and pray it is not their village he will visit,
weak he comes and wasted begging help in the guise of Elder, so helpless with his bent and broken body, so ancient is his past that vampire of beauty.
The innocent is what he is seeking, the brightest of our sweet children, first we hear that mournful cry of brother wolf warning do not walk about this night, ahhh, woe befalls the fool who ignores the loving wisdom of our older brother.
Keep them close mother and grandmother, arm well against the fanged intruder, fast,
sing out those prayers, tonight only Cedar is strong enough for warding, gather well and fill those bowls keep burning bright those Sacred coals.
Rise smoke upon the winds tell Raven you are aware he is here, Solstice of the changing
leaves brings the chill Raven hates, thin his blood from summer fasting, as his hunger grows
so does his courage, soon he flies above the village.
Tremble warrior who fears nothing, who faces death without blanching, shake grandfathers
with battle scars wear thick leggings to disguise the knocking of your knees, can you hear the darkling rustling among the dying leaves.
Small hut has appeared in the forest, ill made and tumbling, roofed poorly and falling through
he does not mind soon he will share it with you, what are those shadows that are creeping, what moves there among the branches, just a Raven black and shiny.
Croaking call sends children running, fear so thick it is close to nausea, fires built high and hot
but little cooks there in the pots, rising now full and swollen the first blood moon of Autumn,
worry holds the whole town silent, Raven has come calling!
