With sweet excitement my heart is lifting,
    precious one of Creators gifting,
soon a new child joins my family,
how I look forward to your coming.

It will not matter girl or boy,
you are my future and my joy,
we are never too old it seems
to enjoy fulfilled dreams and childhood secrets.

    Tiny hands and feet,
    fingers and toes to count,
smiles and coos such heart held sounds,
your every move will hold me spell bound.

    Whispered happiness from the spirits,
one more young one at their fire,
here lives their earth bound connection,
as they smile beyond the curtain.

Such a stir you are causing,
as we prepare for your joining,
    little cribs and blankets,
clothes so small it is frightening to think about it.

    Cradle that was stored,
brought to light and made to glow,
    wooden rockers checked and mended,
    quilt refreshed made by grandmother.

Lace and leather, cloth and fur,
    your heritage is assured,
who you will be, will be a journey for us all,
as we teach and learn from you.

This new year will hear your laughter,
hold your tears and hear your fears made quiet,
    gentle hands will be touching,
in tenderness you will feel loving.

    Know this well beloved child,
you are wanted, and waited for,
an answer to so many prayers,
as we count the days go slipping  by.

Soon your tiny body I will be holding,
    cuddling close and telling stories,
soft sweet smell of a newborn
fills my mind with peace, and heart with joy.

Baby sounds you will be making,
    holding tight to my finger,
snuggling close and looking at me,
    little face filled with trusting.

    How my arms will tighten,
as I rock you to sleep held to my heart,
as I tell you of the old ones,
they will be watching over, protecting always!

I don't have any biological children of my own, but I have a dear Godchild.  He's all grown up now - almost 30 years old!  I sometimes miss when he was little!  He's a wonderful young man, though.

I have six, five living, one murdered four months before his twenty first birthday, three girls, three boys. This was written for a long awaited grandson,we had five granddaughters, five grandsons, he made the tie breaker, lol, and the little warriors of my family held a special dance just for his welcome.
