For almost two years, the children in Flint, Michigan, were drinking lead. The poisoning of drinking water in the city - a result of officials trying to save money by switching its water supply - finally received national attention this month, with President Barack Obama meeting the city's mayor on Tuesday and declaring a state of emergency, and Gov.

Just highlighting a comment from the article.
"We don't see the illness of lead right now, we see the consequences over the entire life of the child through their adulthood," she told The Oakland Press. "Lead is a irreversible neurotoxin with a lifelong, multi-generational impact. And we just had a whole population exposed to it."

Yeah. Imagine being a parent in Flint right now, knowing that your child faces a lifetime of lowered IQ, behavioral problems, and potentially violent behavior as s/he grows up.

FLINT, Mich. - Standing at a microphone in September holding up a baby bottle, Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha, a local pediatrician, said she was deeply worried about the water. The number of Flint children with elevated levels of lead in their blood had risen alarmingly since the city changed its water supply the previous year, her analysis showed.

Not only is the Michigan government poisoning residents, but now they are threatening to take their children for not paying for it. As the water crisis in Flint deepens, it is becoming apparent that the effects of the lead-infested water are not just a health hazard, but the situation has the potential of ruining many more lives outside of the poison issue.
