Forgot to post that as of Monday, March 27 we are back to no longer having to wear masks in the facility. We'll see haw long this time lasts.

Maybe they need to work on that vaccine. Maybe they were just so desperate to get it out there (or be the first to do so), that they didn't go through enough trials????

I know of 6 people who got the vaccine and the booster (including my sons) and all of them got Covid shortly after (like a month or so) ...

I know or have heard of others who got the vaccine early on (when it first came out) and have recently gotten Covid. It seems every week I hear of someone else who's gotten it - and usually when inquiring, I learn they've had the vaccine.

Of all of the above - some people had milder strains of the illness, some did not, even though they were all vaccinated.

I wonder if it has to do with each person's physical makeup, that there might be some gene or something to cause some to still be affected (and badly) while others appear to be immune?

Anyway, that's all from me on this subject. I don't like to concentrate on the negative - there is too much in my life right now that requires a happy escape. lol

(Calgon - take me awaaaaayyyyyy)  ;-)

Been off work for a couple of days. Got a text last night from a co-worker about our sister facility in a nearby town has a covid outbreak (5 staff, 11 residents). So, I just went on our Facebook page and found out we've had 1 resident test positive and we're back to wearing masks.

This article explains some of the historic problems with developing a coronavirus vaccine for a variety of animal coronaviruses as well as the 2 human coronaviruses responsible for ~30% of the common cold.

Frontiers | The Coronaviruses of Animals and Birds: Their Zoonosis, Vaccines, and Models for SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV2 (frontiersin.org)

As you can see, developing a vaccine that is truly effective at stopping transmission has not been very successful overall. Most coronavirus vaccines are more effective at reducing severity of disease, but the FIP vaccine (feline infectious peritonitis) vaccine is no longer made because there was an unacceptable level of triggering severe disease more frequently. IMO the earliest COVID strains were fairly similar to the severe FIP disease while the later strains are more similar to the milder feline coronavirus strains.

Well I came to work today and was greeted with a sign stating we are back to wearing masks. Will have to go 14 days without a positive test in order to remove them. So far it is only one resident.

OMG! Thank goodness it's only one. Keeping fingers crossed that it doesn't spread.

I haven't signed in to HC yet today, but I did invite you as a friend yesterday. Yes, I am in Florida...totally on the other side! I am in Homosassa which is the "Nature Coast". Lots of manatees, kayaking, scalloping, etc. for other people, not for me. We are between Crystal River and Spring Hill. Love it here. Thanks for the response. Diane

Well, it's been over two weeks since you posted this. Are you mask-free now?
