Well our 102 day no-COVID streak is over. The cell phone emergency alert system just went off to say Auckland is going back into lockdown tomorrow. Seems a family of 4 in South Auckland has just tested positive. At the moment no one knows how they got it, but it is assumed from someone who works in Border Control, or at one of the managed quarantine facilities. We always knew these were the weak spots where it was most likely to come from again.

We're all bummed out about it, but we are prepared and will do whatever needs to be done in the coming days to stamp it out again.

Some of the Victorian cases can't be traced to an outside source.

The good news is, the virus has stopped adapting.  That means a vaccine is possible.

The bad news is, the virus has stopped adapting.  That means it has done everything it needs to do, evolutionarily speaking, to survive and thrive.

They are currently investigating whether this new batch of Covid-19 came into NZ in freight, because the first person to contact it in this new round was a freight worker. If that proves to be the case, it is a scary thing, as it means there is no way we can realistically keep it out of NZ.

Interestingly, research has been done here in NZ that says at the beginning we had 277 separate incursions of Covid into the country, and the vast majority of it came from North America, not Asia. Because of this we've started calling it the 'Trump Virus'!

Unfortunately we here in the US have been suffering from the "Trump Virus" for many years...................

Kamala Harris was an excellent choice.

There is some hope now.

In Kentucky, our Governor and the KY Secretary of State have come to an agreement on how Kentuckians will be able to vote in the general election.

Absentee Ballot by Mail

  1. Kentuckians concerned with contracting or spreading COVID-19 can request a ballot by mail.
  2. An online portal will launch within the week to allow Kentuckians to request a ballot by mail. Ballots can be request through the portal through October 8 and through traditional means after.
  3. Mail ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, November 3, and received by November 6.
  4. Drop boxes will be available for Kentuckians to return their mail ballots if they are concerned about postal delays. County clerks will determine these locations.

Early Voting

  1. Beginning October 13 three weeks before the election, every work day between October 13 and Election Day, and every Saturday for at least four hours, every county clerk will provide a location for safe in-person voting.
  2. Early voting is not absentee voting - anyone can vote early for any reason.

Election Day Voting

  1. County election officials will decide election sites on Election Day. The State Board of Elections, Secretary of State and  Governor will approve each plan.
  2. Every county will have at least one voting super-center where everyone from the county can go to vote, regardless of his or her precinct.

Voter Identification

  1. Kentuckians who were unable to get a driver's license or photo ID due to the pandemic because their clerk's office was close, or because they were afraid of exposing themselves to COVID-19, can sign a document explaining this concern and cast their ballot.

BTW ... the Governor is a Democrat and the Secretary is a Republican and they have been able to come to an agreement that works well for those who want to vote. It's a shame the U.S. Congress and Senate can't do the same in other matters.
