I mentioned Calumet Farm earlier in the Alydar & Alysheba post. Now a little about another famous horse farm in Kentucky.

Claiborne Farm - is a thoroughbred horse breeding operation near Paris, Kentucky. It was established in 1910 by Arthur B. Hancock, owner of Ellerslie Farm in Albemarle County, Virginia, and has been operated by members of his family ever since. Arthur B. Hancock imported breeding stock from Europe that made Claiborne Farm an international leader in breeding, sales, and racing. Claiborne Farm won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Breeder in 1979 and again in 1984. It has been visited twice by Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, who owns racehorses herself. 1973 Triple Crown winner Secretariat was syndicated by Seth Hancock for breeding purposes and stood at stud at Claiborne Farm from the conclusion of his racing career at the end of 1973 until his death in 1989.

The Golden boy at Pye Corner was erected to commemorate the staying of the Great Fire of 1666, which, beginning at Pudding Lane, was ascribed to the sin of gluttony when not attributed to the papists as on the Monument, and the boy was made prodigiously fat to enforce the moral. He was originally built into the front of a public-house called "The Fortune of War" which used to occupy this site and was pulled down in 1910.

Jeffers Petroglyphs (is an outcrop in southwestern Minnesota with pre-contact Native American petroglyphs. The petroglyphs are pecked into rock of the Red Rock Ridge, a 23-mile-long Sioux quartzite outcrop that extends from Watonwan County, Minnesota to Brown County, Minnesota. The exposed surface is approximately 150 by 650 feet and surrounded by virgin prairie. Several old wagon trail ruts traverse the site, one of which is believed to be the old stage coach route from New Ulm, Minnesota to Sioux Falls, South Dakota)

Kentucky Wesleyan College – Founded in 1858, KWC is a private Methodist college in Owensboro, Kentucky. The college is known for its liberal arts programs. Fall 2018 enrollment was 830 students. Kentucky Wesleyan offers 29 majors and 13 pre-professional programs and has a student-to-faculty ratio of 13:1. The Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers compete in NCAA Division II and currently is a charter member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) joining in the 2013-14 season. The men's basketball team advanced to the Division II championship game six consecutive years (1998–2003), winning in 1999 and 2001 under the direction of Ray Harper. In addition to these successes, they won six other championships (1966, 1968, 1969, 1973, 1987, and 1990) and were runners-up in 1957. Overall, Kentucky Wesleyan has won eight NCAA Division II National Men's Basketball Championships, which is the most by any NCAA Division II School.

My son graduated from KWC in 1995. While attending KWC he was Student Assistant Coach with the Men’s Basketball team. One of those years the team went to the Division II Elite Eight.
