Karst is a topography based ecosystem formed from the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, dolomite, and gypsum. It is characterized by underground drainage systems with sinkholes and caves.

Lake Ecosystem (includes biotic (living) plants, animals and micro-organisms, as well as abiotic (non-living) physical and chemical interactions. Lake ecosystems are a prime example of lentic ecosystems (lentic refers to stationary or relatively still freshwater, from the Latin lentus, which means "sluggish"), which include ponds, lakes and wetlands, and much of this article applies to lentic ecosystems in general. Lentic ecosystems can be compared with lotic ecosystems, which involve flowing terrestrial waters such as rivers and streams. Together, these two fields form the more general study area of freshwater or aquatic ecology)

Novel Ecosystem (are human-built, modified, or engineered niches of the Anthropocene. They exist in places that have been altered in structure and function by human agency. Novel ecosystems are part of the human environment and niche (including urban, suburban, and rural), they lack natural analogs, and they have extended an influence that has converted more than three-quarters of wild Earth. These anthropogenic biomes include technoecosystems that are fuelled by powerful energy sources (fossil and nuclear) including ecosystems populated with technodiversity, such as roads and unique combinations of soils called technosols. Vegetation associations on old buildings or along field boundary stone walls in old agricultural landscapes are examples of sites where research into novel ecosystem ecology is developing)

Quercus species (Oaks) provide critical ecosystem services that contribute to human well-being. Ecosystem services are those aspects of nature that are fundamental to the welfare of people by provisioning consumable goods (food, shelter), regulating the environment,or enhancing human culture and aesthetics. Provisioning services of oaks are well recognized. oaks have played in developing civilization throughout the ages. Oak trees have provisioned humans with goods and services for millennia from the ink for writing that comes from tannins in the bark, and ship construction that allowed ocean travel, to wagons, barrels, homes, and acorns as food sources.

Rainforest are forests characterized by high and continuous rainfall, with annual rainfall in the case of tropical rainforests between 2.5 and 4.5 meters (98 and 177 in) and definitions varying by region for temperate rainforests. Tropical rainforests provide timber as well as animal products such as meat and hides. Rainforests usually have extremely dense ecosystems because there are so many different types of animals, all are living in a very small area.

A swamp is a forested wetland. Swamps are considered to be transition zones because both land and water play a role in creating this environment. Swamps vary in size and are located all around the world. The water of a swamp may be fresh water, brackish water, or seawater.
