WFPK Waterfront Wednesday - Celebrating its 20th anniversary, WFPK Waterfront Wednesday is a series of free concerts which occurs the last Wednesday of the month April-September at Louisville's Big Four Lawn at the Waterfront Park. The series started in 2002 and was formerly held on the Harbor Lawn before moving to the Big Four Lawn in 2011, according to organizers. Since then, more than 300 free shows have been held. Xigua Niu Nai (or Taiwanese Watermelon Milk is such a refreshing way to use up any extra watermelon during the hot summer months. Best of all, the drink comes together in about 5 minutes with only three ingredients! The longest part of the prep is cutting up the watermelon)

Now, this one sounds "interesting".

Yell "Fudge" at the Cobras in North America Day (June 2) - If you are in North America on June 2, go outside when it is noon, face south, and yell "fudge!" You will be doing your part to make sure Cobras do not advance and take over North America. Any Cobras that have already made it to North America will turn around and go home. Founded in the early 1990's by renowned holiday creators Thomas and Ruth Roy of Wellcat Holidays, this holiday gets the Cobras slithering south. As everyone knows, Cobras hate fudge, and the mere mention of the word gets snakes to gag and slither away. On this day, people from North America go outside, point themselves south, and yell "fudge" at noon local time. Could it be that this ritual keeps Cobras from living in North America? Sure, there are Eastern coral snakes in North America, which are also known as American Cobras, but these are not real Cobras!

Astronomical Summer vs Meteorological Summer (You may have noticed that meteorologists and climatologists define seasons differently from “regular” or astronomical spring, summer, fall, and winter. So, why do meteorological and astronomical seasons begin and end on different dates? In short, it’s because the astronomical seasons are based on the position of Earth in relation to the sun, whereas the meteorological seasons are based on the annual temperature cycle. Summer's Astronomical season is 21 June – 23 September, it's Meteorological season is 1 June – 31 August)

Barack Obama Day - refers to two days of recognition in the United States in honor of Barack Obama, who served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017. Obama was a member of the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004 and represented the state in the United States Senate from 2005 to 2008 before becoming president. Illinois celebrates the day on August 4 of each year. Similar to other commemorative holidays, it is not a legal state holiday, i.e. workplaces are not closed on the day. Perry County, Alabama, has celebrated the second Monday of November as Barack Obama Day since 2009. County offices and schools are closed for the holiday.

Twitter users unofficially celebrated Obama Day on June 14, 2020, posting pictures of the former president, with some using the hashtag #AllBirthdaysMatter in response to All Lives Matter. June 14 is also Donald Trump's birthday.

County Fair (a large public event that happens every summer in US counties, with rides, games, and competitions for the best animal, best cooked dish, etc.)

This is my county fair. It used to be held right across the street from my parents' house and when I was in high school, I used to go every night. It has since moved to a town about 10 minutes away. I actually got a useful tip from one of the local restaurants who had a booth at the fair that I still use to this day (add banana pepper ring juice to cheese sauce to serve with tortilla chips). This fair is actually for the northern part of St. Louis County, the southern part of the county has one at the Proctor fairgrounds.

1914 fair.............

This is the Ashland County Fair in Marengo, WI near where my dad grew up. You can see it is a very small fair, you can look across the midway and see the entire fair. The main reason to go was to watch the softball tournament. They used to get some pro athletes that would join softball teams in the off season that would play in this tournament. Meanwhile, my dad and his brothers along with cousins and friends would put a team together and enter the tournament. Needless to say, they would get their butts kicked, but it was all good fun. This is where I also discovered deep fried cheese curds and homemade lemonade. There's a story about a beer truck and free beer that went on until wee hours of the morning that still makes me laugh to this day............

So there is man named Hugh Renyolds who has painted pictures of local landmarks here in Hibbing. I was hoping to find the one that he did of the old fairgrounds. There is one hanging up where I work so I'll take a picture of it and post it in here later. Every time I look at it it makes me smile. However, I did find this painting of the area where I live. If you take a left after the Aubin's sign you would be on my street. The only 2 businesses that are still there are the 2 bars (the Hamm's sign and the Pabst Blue Ribbon sign), the rest have different occupants or none at all.

Democratic National Convention - is a series of presidential nominating conventions held every four years since 1832 by the United States Democratic Party. They have been administered by the Democratic National Committee since the 1852 national convention. The primary goal of the Democratic National Convention is to officially nominate a candidate for president and vice president, adopt a comprehensive party platform and unify the party. Pledged delegates from all fifty U.S. states, the District of Columbia and the American territories, and superdelegates which are unpledged delegates representing the Democratic establishment, attend the convention and cast their votes to choose the party's presidential candidate. Like the Republican National Convention, the Democratic National Convention marks the formal end of the primary election period and the start of the general election season. Since the 1980s the national conventions have lost most of their importance and become mostly just ceremonial coronation events for the respective candidate, as since the full establishment of primary contests in that time the winning nominees of both parties have always been clear long time before the convention. In 2020, both major parties, and many minor parties, replaced their usual in-person conventions with virtual programs due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2024 Democratic National Convention is scheduled to be held August 19 to 22, 2024, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. By tradition, because Democrats currently hold the White House, their convention will be conducted after the 2024 Republican National Convention, which is scheduled for July 15 to 18, 2024.
