When the game asks for 120 items to send via airships, is it possible to send a partial shipment?  Or do you have to fill the ship with unneeded items to get it to send?

You must fill it to send it or to get credit for it if you're doing a DQ or a Trina quest. If you partially fill it, it will leave on it's own when the timer expires but you won't get credit or items for that airship but it may fulfill a castle challenge requirement depending on wording.
