I know what you mean about reading books years ago but not remembering them well. I've gone back and reread most of the classics I had to read for school ... 40-50 years ago. Plus added some others which I never read.
I'd like to go back and read the books by Dick Francis if I had the time. He's the author that got me hooked on mysteries. Maybe one of these days.
Right now I'm reading The Gatekeepers: How the White House Chiefs of Staff Define Every President by Chris Whipple. Eisenhower was the first President to have a Chief of Staff ... because that was something he was used to as a General in the Army. Kennedy didn't see the need but his brother Bobby, who was Attorney General, did some of that work also. From Nixon on they've all had a Chief of Staff. It's a very hard, stressful job and one that a person can't handle for much more than a couple of year. The book goes through all but the last one for Trump. I'm up to the Clinton years. It's interesting reading.
It's been over 2 1/2 months since I last posted here. Since then I finished the book I mentioned in the previous post and 11 others. That's 4 non-fiction and the rest fiction. Generally, but not always, about every third book I read is non-fiction. I love reading about WW II. The book I just finished last night was Dunkirk: The History Behind the Major Motion Picture by Joshua Levine. It was interesting because he gave you the history of Dunkirk with lots of interviews from the survivors and then he talked about how the movie was made. I really would like to see that movie now which was released in 2017. I checked Amazon Prime but it's not free there. I also checked OnDemand with my TV (cable) and it's on HBO but I would have to subscribe.
Has anyone else been reading anything interesting?
LvlSlgr, you should check your library. They likely would have that movie.
I agree that's a great idea. However, right now I'm not able to play CDs on my TV. Something's not hooked up right. The funny part is it's been like that for about 3 years. Every so often I work with it but I can't get it to work correctly. My son even tried and it won't work. And to be honest, it's one of those things I don't want to stress about so I just live with it. And yes, I know I could play the CD on my old laptop (not the new one) but I would really prefer to watch it on a bigger screen. I look at this small laptop screen for so many hours that I just need to look at something bigger if possible.
But thanks for the suggestion.
I saw something about plans for a new TV show based on the Maisie Dobbs books. I had never heard of it so got an ebook from the library. Really amazing. For those like me who like a long series, there are 16 books so far.
"Maisie Dobbs is a fictional character created by the author Jacqueline Winspear. Dobbs is a "psychologist and investigator" in post–World War I London. After serving as a Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse during the war, she returned to London to work with her mentor, the accomplished detective Dr. Maurice Blanche. When Blanche retires, Dobbs takes over his private investigation business." Wikipedia
Hulu streams it and you get a free trial!
This site is very useful for me:
Thanks, Jenny MC. Unfortunately, I don't have any of the streaming services except for Amazon Prime and I refuse to pay for more than one. I used to have Netflix but every time I looked for a movie it wasn't streaming. I needed to upgrade my subscription to receive the CD and I didn't want to do that. I finally discontinued the Netflix subscription and started the Amazon Prime subscription because I get other things with that even if I can't find a movie to watch.
Hey, I use Tubi and Pluto TV all the time with no problem at all. They offer a ton of movies and they are FREE! Also free is Peacock (the NBC people), and at Christmastime Hulu offers a subscription rate of $1.99/month for a year, so I have done that for a couple of years. Among those 4, I have more to watch than I have time for.
Do not worry about Tubi or Pluto being safe ---- you can check for yourself, but everywhere I have looked it says they are both perfectly fine and safe. Tubi is the better of the 2 if you want to just try one of them out.
