Enola Gay Missions-Aug 6, 1945 (On 6 August 1945, during the final stages of World War II, it became the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb. The bomb, code-named "Little Boy", was targeted at the city of Hiroshima, Japan, and caused the near-complete destruction of the city. Enola Gay participated in the second atomic attack as the weather reconnaissance aircraft for the primary target of Kokura. Clouds and drifting smoke resulted in a secondary target, Nagasaki, being bombed instead)

Federal legislation makes airbags mandatory – Sept. 1, 1998. The Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 required that all cars and light trucks sold in the United States to have air bags on both sides of the front seat.

Gianni Versace Murdered-July 15, 1997 (died an untimely death at age 50 when serial killer Andrew Cunanan shot him in the back of the head as he walked down the front porch steps at his Miami Beach mansion. He was later pronounced dead at the nearby Jackson Memorial Hospital)

Harlem Globetrotters play their first game – On January 7, 1927, the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team traveled 48 miles west from Chicago to play their first game in Hinckley, Illinois. The Globetrotters were the creation of Abe Saperstein of Chicago, who took over coaching duties for a team of African-American players originally known as the Savoy Big Five (after the famous Chicago ballroom where they played their early games). At a time when only whites were allowed to play on professional basketball teams, Saperstein decided to promote his new team’s racial makeup by naming them after Harlem, the famous African-American neighborhood of New York City.

When he finished his career he had played in 2,632 consecutive games)

John Belushi, age 33, died on March 5, 1982. John Belushi was an American comedian, actor, and singer. He was one of the seven original cast members of the NBC sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live. Upon arriving for a scheduled workout, Belushi's trainer found him dead at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Hollywood. The cause of death was combined drug intoxication involving cocaine and heroin, a drug combination known as a speedball. His death was investigated and, while the findings were disputed, it was officially ruled a drug-related accident.

Katrina Makes Landfall-Aug 2005 (was an extremely destructive and deadly Category 5 hurricane that made landfall on Florida and Louisiana in August 2005, causing catastrophic damage; particularly in the city of New Orleans and the surrounding areas. Subsequent flooding, caused largely as a result of fatal engineering flaws in the flood protection system known as levees around the city of New Orleans, precipitated most of the loss of lives. The storm was the third major hurricane of the record-breaking 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, as well as the fourth-most intense Atlantic hurricane on record to make landfall in the contiguous United States, behind only the 1935 Labor Day hurricane, Hurricane Camille in 1969, and Hurricane Michael in 2018)

Minnesota Becomes the 32nd State-May 11, 1885 (was admitted as the 32nd U.S. state on May 11, 1858, created from the eastern half of the Minnesota Territory. The state has a large number of lakes, and is known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes". Its official motto is L'Étoile du Nord (means The Star of the North)
