Yep, your right; David P.  was the one who made it all possible.  His networking strategy was brilliant.  Combining online Community work with online information in seconds to combat any misinformation and have the truth disseminated in seconds was more powerful than the pathetic Republican propaganda machine of Murdoch & Romney and all their subsidiaries.  The  puppet team of Hannity, Limbaugh and O'Reilly were undressed and thrown in the arena for everyone to see.

That's right.

More than learn the bottom-up approaches though, they would do well to just actually get out and talk and listen to regular people rather than false archetypes. They don't undertand that the old style mores and culture is gone...that ethnocentric, "whites only" approach is outdated.

Their substitute plan..."tokenism" where they try to run Republicans in skirts and blackface or brownface will continue to be ineffective. Women won't vote for women just "because" they are women. Blacks won't vote for Blacks "because" they are Black. Same for Latinos. A conservative candidate has to be able to speak to conservative issues. And to the social inequities and injustices.

It is very ironic. Latinos are socially even more conservative than whites on most issues. As are Blacks. As are Asians. But white conservatives often refuse to consider the economic realities that are a direct result of our social stratification system and the myth of the virtues of merit and the protestant work ethic. They are out of touch...always have been...with those issues anyway.

The Liberals have a lot to learn too. A lot of this is a generational thing; a paradigm shift. It's not really "new"...this has been developing for more than 30 years. It's just that the first waves are hitting. And from the sea to the shore. Tsunami. It will change the landscape. For everyone.

The entire Republican party is just like the fool I work for - not internet savvy, they underestimated it and insisted on using telephones and connecting the old school way.
Never heard of myspace, facebook, online networking, don't like text messages, refuse to even use voice mail. Oh, they don't know how much they miss when they don't pay attention to online community and the power of digital freedom, thank you Al Gore!!!

Also, they rely solely on being 'known' - having lots of money and old guard connections; and took for granted that some unknown who happened to be black wasn't going to find enough people interested to even worry about him. By the time they started to worry, it was too late and they were caught with their Depends down. They underestimated the people that Obama never once took for granted.

This new school blue-turned-white-collar electronically-savvy young black lawyer from out of the god-knows-where whipped their old tired stuffed-shirt lunatic elitist fuddy-duddy can't-click-on-an-email-without-written-instructions part-fascist butts!!!

Go Obama 08!!!

"In fact, the Internet is perhaps the greatest source of hope for reestablishing an open communications environment in which the conversation of democracy can flourish... It is the most interactive medium in history and the one with the greatest potential for connecting individuals to one another and to a universe of knowledge.  An important distinction to make is that the Internet is not just another platform for pursuing the truth, and the decentralized mechanism for the creation and distribution of goods and services.  It's a platform, in other words, for reason... it can be used for evil as well as good purposes.  And as always, it is up to us - particularly those of us who live in a democracy - to make intelligent choices about how and for what we use this incredible powerful tool. We must ensure that the internet remains open and accessible to all citizens without limitations... We must be prepared to fight for it because the threat of corporate consolidation and control over the Internet... Far too much is at stake to ever allow that to happen..."

Al Gore, Assault On Reason, Chapter 9

I bet after the election Murdoch and Romney are planning to find ways to consolidate and control!

And for the uninformed (i.e. me), what's the difference between Axelrod and Plouffe? What was the difference between their jobs?

Axelrod - behind the scenes and advisory; not a whole lot of online presence.

Plouffe - front lines for all enemy attacks on and offline.

Obama was covered on both sides, internal and external. The two did the same remarkable job from both ends.

and though i suppose i should be celebratory over the idea that Obama technically would be making history in terms of his partially African-American background, i also find it grating that he would get historical credit for a cultural Blackness he does not personally possess except by way of matrimony.

I don't know how old you are but suppose you are at least 47.  What makes you think Obama is not as culturally black as you?  Or what makes you think he has not experienced the same "black american experience" as you?  Just because your ancestors were slaves it does not mean black culture is an inheritance of some genetic sorts.  There are white kids adopted by black families who have a greater understanding of "cultural blackness" than your average spoiled black middle class kid.   People like you are always complaining.  For a while it was, and at times it still is, a light skin black does not have the same experience as a dark black.... yadda yadda.

Any man whose skin is of any hue of black in America experiences the SAME bias treatment you'd encounter.  So Obama went home to a white family?  So what?  When he steps out every day he's still a black man in the eyes of everyone who encountered him except his immediate family who saw him as their son, brother and grandson.  When people stop looking at his color as you are looking at his lack there of, maybe America would be a better place.  Yesterday millions of white and black people proved your argument is as old and useless and the old segregation laws.

Your view of "only certain" people can experience this cultural blackness you talk about is faulty.   Any Spanish Caribbean-American whose skin is black would tell you so.   Racist people can't tell the difference between a "partical" African American and a full blooded (whatever that means) "black" American.  My son is half Black and half Rican.  Does this mean his cultural blackness is less significant than yours?  If you feel so much dislike towards an African why even bother using the term African American at all?

Seriously what makes you more culturally black?  Your grand or great grand parents experiences are not your experiences, so stop riding on other people's coattail.  Those are THEIR BLACK CULTURAL EXPERIENCES NOT YOURS.
