The first batch of RX400h seen in Singapore
The RX/Harrier is a genuine mid-sized SUV, not a shrunken "truck" like many other off-roaders. Despite its design as an SUV, the Harrier is suitable for urban driving as well, thanks to its 12.58 metre turning circle, easy boarding, and high levels of practicality and refinement.
The RX/Harrier is also built from a monocoque steel structure, which means its ride and handling is much more similar to a conventional sedan than many other like-looking SUVs. Under the skin are road-car style MacPherson struts and anti-swaybars front and rear. Rubber suspension frame mounts effectively reduce in-cabin road vibration. The RX/Harrier turns into corners very well considering its tall 55/65-series tyres, and it never feels ragged when it's being hustled. Its straight-line cruising stability is also exceptional under most circumstances. The fingertip feel through the power assisted rack and pinion steering is beautifully smooth and well damped, and powerful four wheel disc brakes (with standard ABS) feel good as the braking performance of an everyday family sedan. Inside the luxurious 5-seater cabin is a generous amount of space and a complementary selection of earthly trim colours. Being a prestige vehicle, the overall finish and level of features are also very impressive.
That's Right! This is a community of car owners exchanging information and ideas about the Toyota Harrier and the RX300/RX330 models.
Although representing just 8 percent of what the motor industry terms the SUV (sports utility vehicle) market, year-to-date sales of luxury 4WD(SUV's) still see steady growth compared with 2003. Again, this was a hotly contested category and this was most evident in the final scores of the top four vehicles. But the Lexus RX/Harrier took the top spot for the second year in succession. Like its competition out of Europe, the RX(Harrier) has all the qualities befitting a luxury SUV vehicle. And like it did last year, the Lexus impressed the judges with its overall packaging and pricing, as well as a class-leading four-year warranty. This Japanese-built luxury SUV also shone in the areas of safety, comfort, ergonomics, build and finish quality, ride and smoothness and quietness. Considering the very distinguished competition it faced, it was a commendable win for the Lexus(Toyota). The bottom line scores demonstrated how closely matched the vehicles are in this class. Each of the finalists scored either above average or well above average in the critical areas of assessment. Only in terms of standard features, environment and, in the case of one vehicle, security, did the top four vehicles falter.
