Let's discuss Overpopulation

Overpopulation is the most critical threat facing society, the environment, and our common future.

The future for all humanity and other life on the planet requires we solve overpopulation, become sustainable and live within regional carrying capacities while making allowance for other lifeforms and future generations. There is no other alternative.

Here is a article that provides an excellent overview of the threat posed by overpopulation — Will humanity be left home alone?

Delaying or denying the need for action — due to economics, religion, nationalism, racism, culturalism — amounts to the present degrading the environment at the expense of the future.

HOW do we reduce our excess population? I outline some prerequisites but none of them are legally, politically, economically, or morally acceptable. Yet something must be done quickly because a failure to act means continued population growth and further environmental degradation which may eventually force a collapse of our population and economy.

The purpose of this forum isn't conversation or even debate so much as an online educational forum about the topic I care most about — overpopulation. However, it isn't just my soapbox either and I take seriously every message and reply with information and links to better inform others. Other than a forum link in my message signature I seldom promote the forum — message quality is much more important than quantity.

Unless they understand the severity of the problem they won't understand the severity of the solution. Overpopulation must be dealt with.

FORUM RULES: All posts should deal directly with population and environmental issues. Debate is welcomed. This is not a religious forum so try to keep your personal religious beliefs to yourself. Stick to rational discussion, submit to the appropriate folders, be polite, don't spam, minimize thread drift, avoid repeated and large signatures, and we'll get along just fine. Be sure to review the older messages for topics of interest.
