Welcome to PC Gaming Online.
This forum is a forum for readers of PC Gamer magazine and gamers in general, and as such is the place to discuss all things relating to PC Gaming. PC Gamer has its own offical forums, so please don't expect interaction with PC Gamer staff here.
The forum is divided into Folders.
The divisions are there for a reason. Use them.
A good place to start is this discussion, which is member-created and updated.
Guidelines
1. PLAY NICE. This forum is a community that developed before you got here. Think of it like walking into a bar in a strange town - if you go in with a bad attitude, throwing insults at all and sundry, don't be surprised if someone wraps a pool cue around your head. Similarly, if you come in here specifically looking for a fight, you may find we throw you the fuck out without giving you the pleasure. Disagreements will inevitably occur (this is a discusion forum after all, which relies on differences of opinion to exist), and when they do we ask you to maintain your dignity and keep personal insults to a minimum. You are entitled to express any opinions you choose, but you will be required to defend them in rational debate should we disagree. 'It's just my opinion' is not a valid excuse for being wrong. Derogatory racial, ethnic, and sexual orientation comments do not belong here
2. MAKE SENSE. The only things that matter on this forum are your words. Thus, your words are the only way of gaining respect from the community. Use them wisely. While you won't find yourself gagged for mis-spelling, we do urge you to take time over your posts so that we can read them. If we can't read it, we'll ignore it. And you'll look stupid. Naturally, delibrate mis-spelling of words is even more heavily frowned upon: l33t-5p33k does not make one look l33t. It makes them look a tit. And it makes the forum unnecessarily hard to read for everyone else. Refrain.
3. THINK. Think before you press 'post'. Think about what you've just written, and the impression it will give us of you. Think about whether it's even worth posting at all. If it doesn't add anything to the topic at hand, click 'back'. If it makes you look like an idiot, then we're liable to laugh at you, so we'd advice against posting it. When you're about to start a new thread, think about whether it's likely to have been done before. If your idea isn't startlingly original, check back a few pages through the forum to see if a similar topic has been active recently. If it has, post your thoughts in there rather than starting a whole new topic.
4. NO WAREZ. Warez is wrong and bad. Post about your latest warez acquisitions, links to pirated games, tips on where to find them or promote warez in any way and you will find yourself very, very gagged.
5. NO PC VS CONSOLES. This argument is so old it hurts. Format is irrelevant. It's all about the games. (as a side-note, while the focus of this forum is on PC games, there's no reason not to mention console games when relevant. they're part of the wider form, and should be taken into consideration when discussion demands it). Similarly, 'Macs vs PCs' is off-limits.
6. NO UNSOLICITED ADVERTISING. If you've just come here to sell stuff without contributing anything to the forum, you will be gagged and all offending posts will be removed.
7. TASTEFUL SIGS. Less of a problem these days thanks to delphi basic, but if you have shelled out for Plus, this is not an excuse to assault our eyes and bandwidth with 500k of flashing animated gif. A lot of us are still on dial-up and don't appreciate it.
8. LOOK BEFORE YOU LEAP. If you're new, take time to read a few threads first. Get a feel for the place, get an idea of what goes and what doesn't. There are countless conventions and unwritten rules on this, and every, forum, which you will only understand by observing others. If in doubt, keep quiet - it is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. |
