WELCOME TO PERSONAL LAW
Glen Ashman, Judge & Attorney, Forum Manager
February 2001 Delphi Forum Of The Month Winner!
Read about Delphi and this forum in the national press.

Your source for legal and consumer information...Whether you are a lawyer or not, come join us and discuss how the law impacts you. We hope you will visit often! Scroll down for an extensive listing of helpful legal information internet links.
Our main rule is "Be polite and don't flame others". Full forum rules are available online. The forum does not allow the posting of hate speech or slurs based on gender, race, religion, nationality, age or sexual preference.
If you are a non-lawyer with a legal or consumer question we encourage you to post in the "ASK A LAWYER" area of the forum, where lawyers can answer posts. The other topics are for information, discussion, and news. Please ask questions solely in "ASK A LAWYER". Please do not ask questions for a friend, or general hypothetical questions, and use this service only for questions about yourself and your immediate household. (The lawyers who answer volunteer their time and want to use their time to help people with their own problems, and appreciate your understanding. We're appreciative of the time they donate to our members.)
While non-lawyers may answer posts in the ASK A LAWYER folder, we do require that those posts identify the poster as a non-lawyer (and will remove posts that do not do so, or that contain incorrect or dangerous suggestions)
For more details on Ask a Lawyer, click here. Please be sure to limit questions to your own personal problems and not for hypothetical questions or questions for friends.
If you have a legal problem and need a lawyer, you'll find a lot of helpful tips on finding and hiring one at http://forums.delphiforums.com/perlaw/messages?msg=70363.1. Want to find a free legal services attorney in your area? Go to www.lawhelp.org .

POSTING NEWS ITEMS (COPYRIGHT RULES)
We encourage members to post news items. Look for an existing thread if there is one; otherwise start a new thread. Please do the following to comply with copyright laws:
1. Any quotes should be brief. As a general rule, don't exceed 25 words on a short news item and 50 on a lengthy one. Regardless, the quote should not be the bulk of the news story.
2. Give a link or url to where the full story can be found online.
3. Give the name of the source (such as AP, New York Times, ABC, etc)
4. Do not include pictures or graphics.
5. Some press releases and most items from the federal government can be reproduced in their entirety, but if in doubt, follow the above rules. Be sure to credit press releases and federal items. If you have express written permission to repost someone's work, mention that in your post.
