I was volunteering in a thrift store .. in the book area, naturally  :-)  I saw this book and as my son likes history and war stories, I called him to come take a look and see if he wanted it.  He came down, grabbed it up  when he saw it was a signed first edition.  Cost him a cool $4.00.  Plus there are a couple of newspaper clippings that were folded inside.

How heart-breaking when things like that happen ... irreplaceable items are precious.  But at least you were safe,

How lucky! Was it ever appraised by a pro?

No it wasn't.  He did go online to see if the signature was actually a true signature ... and it was.

No!  we have a couple of genres that we share, but mainly we go in complete opposite directions.  :-)  But that's a good thing .... we share with each other about the books that we are reading and it makes for some pretty good conversations  :-)

I think that is nice, although I cannot imagine discussing science fiction creatures with my uncle, especially over the dinner table.

I don't particularly like the sci-fi stuff .. but he doesn't care for crime fiction, either.  I might add, that there's been a time or two for both of us that we have read each other's highly personally recommended books.  Now those are some good conversations!  :-)
