I believe it was in the book "The Black Seminoles", by Kenneth Wiggins Porter.

Why is it that when a person in these forums miss a letter, or doesn't quote something verbatim, they are immediately attacked and assumed an idiot?

Good morning,   Casimiro...

And please do accept my personal apology if even something I unintentionally said/wrote you considered demeaning or insulting...

But just do realize and recognize that few  (if any of us ) who post on message boards are 'experts'  as regards everybody and everything...

So--yes--I do believe you came away-- after reading Mr. Katz's book-- with the false impression that the Buffalo Soldiers and the Negro Seminole Scouts were all black indians...

No...

Only the Negro Seminole Scouts...

And as my sources have revealed to me?

The Buffalo Soldiers had already been among the ex-black slaves and/or already free black men who took up arms to aid the Union side during the U. S.  Civil War:

Then they were recruited to defend the new territories that the United States were expected to be reorganized into new states (which is what eventually happened out west)...

Instead?

It was the American Indians who gave their foes the name(s)  'Buffalo Soldiers'  because of the bravery and courage and honor they always exibited in battle...

As well as no atrocities were associated with their dealings with the indians...

If anything:   Just the opposite...

That can not be said or written when it comes to their white counterparts...

Ditto the Negro Seminole Scouts were just that!

It was from an earlier generation of Black Seminoles,   i. e.,   who under the leadership of Black Seminole leader John Horse et al had fled the Seminole Nation, after being betrayed by Creek indians and/or  some of whose relations then had been sold to the white slave traders  back before the Civil War,  which wound up in Mexico...

Those folk had been given land and Mexican citizenship...

They were also called upon to defend Mexico from raids by hostile local tribes and various outlaw bands...

Then some of those former defenders of Mexican territory got lured back  (but on the basis of false promises of land et al on the Seminole reservation),   to do likewise in the service of the same U. S. military,  (just as  the aformentioned Buffalo soldiers were)...

Though the eventual outcome for the one group wasn't necessarily the same for the other?

Anyway...

Flashforward and the same sort of function gets carried about by OAS or NATO or African Union and/or  United Nations peacekeepers...

While my and the and more to the point?

Let us try to be a tad bit more forgiving and patient and understanding of each other's bad means and ways when we say/write one thing but used the wrong means/ways to do it...

Let us also realize and recognize that being the second most visible social strata on this planet that the whole world is prejudging us in terms of our distant or recent past--fairly or unfairly assuming a lot about us in the present and sometimes on the basis of a few handful...

Hence what we don't truly known and understand about all of the above can and will be used against all of us by those who envy and fear us...

I was and I am just trying to watch your back...

I hope you're doing likewise...

FYI...

And another one from a friend of the family...

Take care...

Later...

Peace...

Thank you very much for the clarification.   I enjoyed reading the history you gave me.  You should teach.

I am never offended by a teacher.   Again; thanks!

I am elated and pleased and suprised by your reply...

(Smile)...

And yes:

I do strive to reach--to teach--and not to just preach!

Lastly:

Your compliment was appreciated and quite welcomed...

(BIG smile)...

This is off topic.

I read your response to the Cherokee elections and the comments.   I am sad because of the pain and hardship created by this election.  I wonder about the purpose and timing of the vote.   Logic may suggest that it is a cost-cutting measure painted in racism.  I don't know.

When was this subject thread started?

Go back and look!

Oh,  my...

Instead the reality is that the overall service record of the Buffalo Soldiers reveals no atrocities against indian folk and/or their very name was/is a tribute to those folk honored enemies...

We are and they were placed in an unconfortable position in the midst of people they had also had to cope and deal in the midst of:

And we can't know for certain if our compromises would've been any different than their's...

Let us be as able and willing to live with the ones we have to make in times like this too...

FYI...

Later...

Peace...

Much is said about the Buffalo Soldier but nothing is said about the Blacks and Indians in the
Confederate Army in the South.
