I'v been TORN about what to do about getting this extruder! Still in the thinking stages, although when I first brought it up I was ready to go. I will let you know what I decide. :)

I used mine for the first time tonight. It's awesome! I have the shorter barrel and it will likely suit my needs. I work in small batches usually.

The assortment of disc designs is almost overwhelming. So many options , I could probably spend days with graph paper doodling ideas!

There is a significant quality difference of this CZExtruder compared to the stuff available at the craft stores. I wore out three of them in a very short time. The power drill option is the real clincher for why this is the best choice. Happy hands!

Good luck whatever you decide!

Amy - the website features the PDF files that Lucy Clay published with several patterns made with the disks. Patterns from disks #3 - #10 are available both in color and as coloring books. Here's a direct link to the Lucy Clay Tools:

?You don't have to sign up to see the patterns, but if you do (it's free) you'll be able to download the PDF files to your computer (for free). I love freebies!

Eva , that is a great resource for ideas to use with the extruded shapes. Thanks for sharing it. Amyfb

Isn't it? And there are more options than shown, so you can continue experimentation. Stuffing the barrel with skinner blend bulls eye canes or even pattern canes can render fabulous results.
Here's a cute little backgroundless flower cane from a white/red skinner blend bulls eye with yellow center pressed through the flower die from disk #6:

Jackie, I've been following your extruder thread because I am also looking for an extruder that can be used with a drill. I followed the link to Cynthia Tinapple' s video, but it seems like the Bullens Wulliens adaptor for the of the Makins extruder is no longer available from the source listed. I did find the Bullens Wullens for sale at Etsy, but haven't make a decision yet.

If I get the silver Makins (Cynthia recommends using the PMC silver version of the Makins for easiest cleaning), the Bullens adaptor and the recommended vise it could get pricey. Hard decision. (edited: Just purchased the adaptor!)

I look forward to reading about your extruder quest.

The drill attachment for the Czechtruder is very nice to work with. I've got the plate c-clamped to the worktop, and i have it set to run very slowly to avoid stripping out the drive screw. I spend more time prepping the clay than extruding with only the stress of the holding the weight of the drill steady while she goes. (Try not to have to use that manly one from the shop; perfectly good lady-sized ones (bigger than a Drexel) are out there )

I do now wish I'd ordered the XXL model of the extruded from Lucy Clay. But, that said, compared to the silver one that costs $30 at any craft store - two of which I cranked right into the trash in a few short months -  this LC brand is worth every penny including freight from overseas.

All the LucyClay stuff is awesome - ask for it for Christmas or your birthday, it's sooooo worth it. ;-0) (no affiliation, really I just love their stuff)

I got the big Lucy Clay slicer last year when my guild did an order, and I LOVE it. You can easily get slices of the same thickness...just an amazing tool.
