I enjoyed when Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) burned Holm's character (Ash) in Alien (1979). I can't remember but I think the whole theater shouted in joy and applauding too (myself included).
IMO, they shouldn't have ruined the movie with annoying sequels.

Some could argue that Aliens (2) was better than the first.
It's rare, but it can happen.

Open to debate. In Aliens, Ripley was a Rambo with estrogen.
And talking about Rambo, First Blood was a fine movie but the sequels ruined the original. Same goes with Ghostbusters, Beverly Hills Cop and Blade Runner.

OK...
Empire Strikes Back
The Dark Knight
Terminator 2
All superior to the first.

I agree, The Empire Strikes Back was far superior to the first but remember, Star Wars was a trilogy (that's what I thought in 1983). It was supposed to be more than one movie, just like The Godfather. The ones I previously mentioned (e.g. First Blood) were hit movies whose producers decided to do lousy sequels.
Never saw Dark Knight, sorry. As for Terminator, still liked the first but there was no question sequels were coming.

True story...
I saw The Empire Strikes Back before the first Star Wars movie (Episode IV).
