I am trying to make some daisy chain bracelets for my girls - I like to do some handwork at night and I need something simple to do that doesn't take much space. I've made several, but they always break when the girls are wearing them - how do I secure the clasp so that it doesn't wear and break?

I don't have that much time on my hands, so I can't keep remaking them! : - )

I am using bead thread that I wax, a crimp (I thought that was the problem the first time), and I am also running the thread several times through the clasp link. I've also tried a little Elmer's glue, but that didn't seem to help, either.

They also enjoy doing this, too, so I'm hoping that we can make ones that are sturdy enough to wear!

Thank you for your suggestions!

The crimp might be wearing on the thread and breaking it, they are made to be used with wire.  Try using Fireline thread, it's very strong and it shouldn't break.  It comes in 4, 6, and 10 lb. weights.  I'd use the 6 lb., since the bracelets will be getting a lot of wear.  You might also use a wireguard where the thread attaches to the clasp, it will make it even stronger.

Hi there!

If you are using a bead thread like Nymo all you have to do is tie it to your clasp then work your thread back through your beadwork a little ways, Tie a couple of times along the way.

I'm using something like Nymo, or it even could be Nymo - I can't remember and I've had it for a while.
The threads just seem to wear along the metal of the clasp and then break. I've looped the thread around the clasp loop many many times and then woven it back through.

Perhaps my girls are just not cut out to wear this type of bracelet . . . they are 8 and 12.

Thank you all for your help so far! I wish I could do the daisy chain with something stronger than bead thread.

Debbie, are you stringing any seed beads on the thread that you are looping through the clasp? This might help to keep the threads from rubbing directly on the metal of the clasp. I would also suggest you use Fireline (can be purchased at a sporting goods store) or Wildfire (I've found my spools at Michael's). These are a little sturdier than beading thread. I also like the wire guards. I have actually seen some of those at JoAnn Fabrics in the past, but not recently. Good luck and I hope you can find a simple solution that will work so that your daughters can enjoy their bracelets!
