My pup which is 4 mos. old has become very aggresive in her behavior.. growling, snapping and biting I have tryed to walk away and ignore her when she does this but it doesn't not even phase her. I go back and she is right back at it. I am at the end of my rope and ready to give her back to the animal shelter. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Sounds like you need professional help - 4 months is very young to show signs of aggression like that.  Have you enrolled in a puppy kindergarten class?  Also, there are trainers that will come to your home and work with both you and the pup in the situations you need help in.

At what times does she growl, snap, or bite?  She may be WANTING you to go away, so the walking away will not help.  Others will be able to help more, but don't ignore this.  You will end up with a dog who is a huge liability.  She is young enough it should be relatively easy to 'fix'!

this is too vague for anyone to have an opinion or suggestion -
she could be growling, biting and snapping in *play*.

U do not tell us what the context is - when + where does this
happen? is she scared?  resisting handling or grooming?
(ears cleaned? nails clipped?)

is she a Dobe with cropped ears that need the bandages to be
changed daily, and they HURT, and ITCH, and the bandage
changes are painful?

what is she doing, what are U doing, and where are U both?
pain + fear are both valid reasons to defend oneself -

play is not supposed to be so aggressive, but how old was this
pup when she left her dam + sibs?
too-early separation causes all SORTs of behavioral problems,
and a hard-mouth is only one of them - if she left her litter before
56 days / 8-weeks age, this could well be one manifestation of
the results.

more details, please!   :--)

What you describe may be play behavior, or it may be aggression.   Could you expand a bit?

What type of dog is she (if a mix, best guesses?)?  If you have no clue, what size is she?

How much exercise does she get?

When does this behavior happen?

How much time does she get daily to play with other dogs?

How long have you had her?

What dog courses have you enrolled her in?   What does the instructor say?

Some dogs are just playing something is either not stimulating her/him or is over stimulating her, , can you take the dog to puppy training or social classes for young dogs? Do you have any ideas on when she was abandoned or what treatment she had recieved before sheltering?

Some dogs have a history that influences behavior like being taken from mom to soon, like being hit with paper or hands or yelled at, caged for hours, not enough exercise..not feeling well..needing attention and energy walked or run off.

for anyone to help details of how and why are necessary, dogs this young are very rarely aggressive. Post us and maybe someone will have ideas on how to help
