having jumped from birds to swine, + swine to ppl,
this flu has now infected a housecat in Iowa.

PLEASE if U get sick with flu-like symptoms,
-----------------------------------------------
* STAY * HOME - treat symptoms,
monitor Ur body-temp, avoid public-transit

* wash hands frequently -

* give germs the Elbow -
cough into Ur bent ELBOW, not Ur hands, to avoid
leaving the virus on every thing that U touch

* wash hands after blowing Ur nose

* minimize handling Ur dog or cat -
and treat them like ppl, COVER coughs + sneezes with a bent-elbow

* when the vaccine is available, get it!
U may be at low-risk, but by not being vaxed, U put many others at risk;
this flu does not kill the typical flu-victims, over-70 and under 2-YO;
it kills young adults and older children.

to help avoid getting sick, eat nutritious food, get plenty of rest, keep Ur vit-C and other
vitamins up, and wash hands OFTEN + WELL.  * avoid * touching Ur face, eyes, mouth!

cheers, and be well!

So far, there has been no evidence of the virus jumping from a pet to a human.

There were some odd things about the cat in Iowa that make me wonder if he really had H1N1 or simply had some virus particles in his lungs.  The cat did not sneeze or cough at all which is the most common symptom in any species.

The cat made a full recovery which is good...and so far there haven't been any other reported cases of H1N1 in a feline yet!

The article I read, which was several days ago so I'm not sure I could find it, said the cat was positively diagnosed via viral cultures with H1N1. Two ferrets in another state had also been diagnosed but did not survive.

I heard today of a dog in the Dallas area but have not seen that confirmed.
