• Man, it's been a rough year

I'm sitting here looking at the 14 inches of snow that fell in the last 24 hours get blown around by strong winds and realizing that not only do I hate winter, I really hate winter when it shows up two months early. Blech.

I've been in a low mood all week. Someone close to me died earlier this week, and it was so random and senseless, I haven't been able to really process it very well. Haiffaa was one of the women--one of the very first--in the refugee women's crafts program I helped to start, and that hit way too close to home. You can read about it on our blog at refugeecrafts.org.

That's the second person in my life to pass this year. Anyway, since Denver is pretty much in a universal snow day today, I'm taking some time to organize beads and make some jewelry of my own. I was just working on some really cool eyeglass chains so I can stop losing my reading glasses when I wear my (non-bifocal) contacts.

Making jewelry really is very soothing, isn't it?

Glinda

The co-op is fine, the ladies are quirky, the jewelry is...interesting, the beads and money are dwindling, our ideas get pirated, but,  it's always an adventure, and we're nothing if not adventurous.

Oh, Glinda, what a tragic loss.  Haiffaa will leave a hole in the world.
It's a depressing time of year anyway, with the short days and lack of sunlight.  And 14 inches of snow in October wouldn't help.
Please keep it,
Susan

Glinda, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Death is always difficult for those of us left to carry on but it is really hard when a good person dies way too soon. I hope working with your jewelry and your continued work with the refugee women will help to ease the loss. And, yes, making jewelry is very soothing. It can give you such a good feeling when you finish a project that you have put part of yourself into.

Take care of yourself and don't get lost under all that snow. Please show us your eyeglass chains when you finish them.

Sharon,

I am so sorry about Haiffaa.  I know you will miss her very much.  Stories like hers remind us that the world is such a small place and geographic distance doesn't make the sorrow any less personal.

What could be better for you than to spend a day making jewelry?  (any more Meow Mix lately?)  I'm with Linda--can't wait to see pictures of the eyeglass holders!

It's nice to hear from you again but I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I too have experienced  four losses this year so far. Most were elderly with the exception of my dear beloved cousin but it's hard no matter. Hold on to your memories of them and maybe it will bring you some comfort.

Now SNOW is another matter! All you can do is watch it fall, drink some hot chocolate and make jewelry...........

Lolly
