Just wondering what everyones idea of a road partner might be as opposed to a riding partner. I guess their may be some considerations for a road partner. Someone who a rider is going to spend weeks on end with on a road trip. A riding partner could be someone to go for an afternoon cruise with. Probably nothing serious. What attributes would you want a road partner to have compared to a riding partner.

There's enough potential grief in a trip, I wouldn't feel the need to start out with a load of it already.

If I were to hit the road for days or weeks with another human.... they'd better have the same sort of ideas of what will stop and start the ride as me.  I wouldn't be interested in someone who whines more than me.... same as they shouldn't have to bear it if I whine more than them.

Someone who rides the same general pace as me. Is willing to run the same levels of risk. Enjoys the same sorts of roads. Deals with traffic in a manner I can understand and anticipate.

A good, easy sense of humor. I'd also want their bike to be as reliable as my own........ and have the funds to cover the trip at whatever level of luxury we had previously agreed to.

If all that were in place, a flat, or a crash..... that's part of the adventure.

A riding partner would be the spontaneous "let's go for a ride today" for a little bit around the area. A road partner would be someone who put as much thought as I have into a long trip.

Road partner, what RJ and Little Fisher said.  I like that.

Ride partner, I dunno, I have never had one who wants to just spontaneously ride around for short trips.

I am fortunate to have both sorts. Whether on a short trip to grab food, a day ride, a track day or a multi-day trip, they are the same group of individuals.

Same riding preferences/styles and enough familiarity to be able to deal with a host of riding situations with nary a word said.
