First of all - YES!

Tips

Write 5 at a time. New promos hit the "airwaves" straight away, so submitting your allotted 5 gets your forum name seen more often. It's a brief surge, they won't be traveling around for the next ten days together. If your forum is Classic you can use the Promote URL in your controls to promote your entire forum! Just use the Start page link and invite in the world!

Proof Read - Use Review Promotions in your controls to check the promos you just wrote for errors or confusing lingo. If you do find one just use the Delete option there (2 step process) and rewrite it.

One promotion per discussion/topic - not just a tip, this is a rule Delphi does enforce. By topic they do mean specif topic. If all your 5 promos lead to different discussions on insects for example, promote the unique subtopic of each of those discussions.

Don't recycle - While you may promote a thread over and over, keep the promos unique and fresh. Seeing the same promo over and over, may keep members away (ack!)

Promote off Delphi - Make sure your guest access is on, you can link your forum to your Facebook and Twitter pages when you submit the promos or anytime after! You can also use active content to place your forum promos on your off Delphi wegpages.

Besides Delphi's promotions you can advertise your forum by

1. Placing it in your profile.

2. Place the name and link in your signature.

3. Trading webtags with other forum owners to use in your Related Topics menus.

4. Invite off Delphi friends as well as fellow members.

5. Be a COSI host! Word of mouth is the best advertising you can hope for. Treat your visitors well and make sure your public image is one that is friendly, inviting and supportive of your community.

This is the biggest, most important, and most difficult step to take. Off-Delphi promotions help increase the chances that you pull in members from the outside and grow the membership so that those on-Delphi promotions have an audience.

It is difficult because as we've talked about before, many people don't want to mix their Delphi activity with their other social media accounts, and ultimately you need to get eyeballs (and curiosity) from the social media crowd and hope you can net a few.

And really, you need off-forum content such as using a blog or a website as a front end. And these front-ends need actual content that atttracts people and makes them want to investigate the discussions. Probably doesn't need to be elaborate either. The trend for a lot of forums (mine included) is to be a poor man's web directory for outside content. It should really be the opposite.

And if you do not social media, someone else on your forum might. Don't be shy about asking for promos!
