Rutgers just had seeds made this year. Seems Ramapo went out of favor with farmers because it only grows best in the Eastern States. So seed production was stopped decades ago...someone at Rutgers decided to bring it back and boy I'm so glad they did...they are excellent.

Thanks that's good to know. I grew up in Bergen County and that was one variety my dad grew. I shall look for some seeds next year!

Well this year they were only available through Rutgers mail order. Here's the website where you can read about them. Ramapo Toms

Warm enough today to change the oil in the tractor to 5W-30 (winter oil). It's been so cold here the motor didn't want to turn over with straight 30 weight (summer oil). Had some fun pushing the various snow banks around and I took a trip cross country with the tractor and snow thrower to clear a path to the garden. Going to be  planting peas in 6 weeks!

So far this really feels like a real Winter in the City. It's been a long time since I recall snow hanging around for so long and so many days below freezing. Still waiting for this year's blizzard though.

Hey, I have people doing the shoveling, one of the advantages of living in an apartment building!

Total snowfall amount is expected to be four to eight inches, except up to 10 inches over the Poconos and northwest New Jersey.

Well we have about 5" on the ground with freezing rain coming down. Supposed to change to all rain and back to snow this evening. I think the snow plow will wait till evening, I like plowing in the dark....

You want a big blizzard Gunter? Maybe next Tuesday (2/3/09):
