"From the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, shal bring mine offering."
It is claimed to imply this is the ark of the covenant that is the offering.
Dates don't make sense. Zephaniah is dated at around 680 BC. The destruction of the first temple didn't happen for about 100 years, 580 BC. When was the ark supposed to be carried off to Ethiopia? 500 ish BC? King Solomon and Sheba date at 900 ish BC.
Don't you people question such things when people make outrageous claim? Don't people who have these thoughts do a little research before making such claims? Just because it "feels like it could be true" or makes a neat story does not mean it should be said. Get a grip on reality people.
Is the ark in Ethiopia? Maybe, but this story has nothing to do with it.
Was the ark in the second temple? It was destroyed about 70 AD? If so then the ark had to be carried off after that.

Oops, no ark in the second temple. Last seen around 400 BC, by Ezra who hid it .. in a cave?
Tales told around the campfire require little precision or veracity, you have said so too.
