Yet it’s being supported by some politicians.

Some politicians seem to be doing it for the lulz, others seem to be doing it to exploit the chaos in classic Rules for Radicals playbook fashion - to create crises to "not let go to waste" and move the agenda forward more in a month or two than could have otherwise been done in a generation.

It's also out of the Communist Manifesto. Probe with a bayonet. If steel is met, withdraw and wait, and probe somewhere else. If mush is met, press the advantage and move forward. Eventually resistance will get exhausted.

I apologize.  I've gotten a little behind.

New cases August 3  2258    August 2 3165    7 day rolling average August 3 3513     August 2 3603    Total  195,435
This number seems to be stabilizing, although it's still pretty high.

Deaths  August 3  3    August 2 15    7 day rolling average August 3 48    August 2 49    total 3842
This trend seems to be up and down, but the range appears to be decreasing.  I don't believe there's a downward trend yet.

Hospitalizations August 3  3111    August 4  3069    7 day rolling average   August 3 3139    August 2  3149
This appears to be flattening, although still pretty high.

Positivities  US.  7.7  Georgia 12.7  Although up a tick from July 31, positive tests seems to be declining slightly.
