Most of the time 2 seed feeders and one for the woodpecker with home made suet aka peanut butter bricks. Spring and fall we usually end up having to take the feeders in at night to keep the local bear from tearing down the poles.

I have 2 squirrel feeders that use whole corn cobs and baffles on the bird feeder poles. I also put out a handful of peanuts on the deck each morning for the squirrels so the cats can watch Squirrel TV through the sliding door.

My dogs also like Squirrel TV. I like that name.

I have one squirrel that will come right up to the door and bang on it with his paws if there aren't peanuts out there for him. He doesn't care if the cats are sitting right in front of it or now...drives them crazy! lol

We've made our own suet in the past.  I may do that again this winter.  We use crunchy peanut butter.  Do you use that or smooth?  What species of woodpecker may I ask?

As a suburbanite on the deep south, I can't imagine having bears actually stroll into the yard.

My dogs scare the squirrels. They might tease, but if a dog goes after them, they are smart enough to take off.
