Labradoodles are not an AKC breed of dog. They are half Labrador Retriever and half poodle. Poodle can be toy, miniature or standard. Some feel they are useful for those who want or require a dog. They are calm and strong like a Lab but have almost hypoallergy free fur like a poodle. There are no laws on how often a dog can be bred. They are advertised as Australian Labradoodles but they are from dogs created in USA.

No, I don’t care for designer dogs.  They are not calm as puppies. They are high energy dogs that need a large amount of exercise and training. As adults, they can make very nice pets.

Do you approve of two different breeds purposely being bred for profit?

Not really. Although it’s become so common, now it’s accepted.

I wonder what happens when a Lab mates with a toy poodle?
Poodles have a lot of problem with ear location and with gait. It isn't fair to the dog.

Standard poodles are supposed to be calmer and easier to train than smaller ones.  But they all need a lot of exercise and tend to be high energy as puppies. Labradors are either English lines, who tend to be fatter and need less exercise and field labs that are bred for hunting.  Field dogs can be very intense and need a huge amount of exercise. They are bred to be able to run all day.  Poodles can be very high strung.  So when they are mixed, the resulting puppies can be over the top in intensity and energy needs. They can be calm when trained or nervy.  When people mix breeds, they don’t know which traits they are going to get.

The Doodles being bred now are from lines that have been around for a while, so the bad traits could have been bred out of them.  In general, though, designer dog breeding is a bad idea.

The problem is that the people doing the breeding are using the same dogs over and over, good and bad traits are not taken into condideration. No studying of the dogs used. Makes me sick. Like a puppy mill

No, they shouldn't but they want the money.

Some think they are doing a unique and helpful service.
