The return of stagflation and the misery index

Desmond Lachman, Opinion Contributor  9/3/2021

In the 1970s, in the wake of the international oil price crisis, the United States suffered from a prolonged period of high inflation and high unemployment, which came to be called stagflation. This prompted Arthur Okun, the late Brookings Institute economist, to develop a "misery index" to capture the economic pain experienced by the American public. The idea was simply to add the inflation rate to the unemployment rate to come up with a misery index as a single measure of economic pain.

Americans haven't seen misery yet.  If Biden doesn't raise the debt ceiling and print trillions, the dollar will crash to zero in a matter of time.  If he does print the money, it will only be a matter of time anyway before the balloon bursts.

If the 180 countries threatening to dump the petro dollar, the world currency, the dollar crashes instantly.  These 180 countries no longer have any respect for us or trust, and what's pushing them over the edge, is leaving American citizens in Afghanistan to be tortured and murdered, along with trusted allies.  What are they waiting for, unsure, but they want to dump the dollar all at the exact same time.

Most countries have gold to back their currency and no longer need our worthless dollar.

All those demonized conspiracy theorists have been, and are being, vindicated.

They tried to warn us about EVERYTHING that is taking place, but because the mainstream media along with the corrupt government, turned 'conspiracy theorist' into a dirty word, the masses didn't believe.  Worse, they didn't even go and see what these conspiracy experts had to say.  They were conspiracy theorists after all, or so it's been repeated.

They will... believe you me... they will.

We're only slightly into 8 months of the Biden administration. So we still have 3 years and a few months to go.

By the end of 2024, everybody will be wondering how this guy got elected, but hey... by then... their misery will be so great that they'll settle for just about anybody for a change!

So, Jimmy Carter got a 2nd term by proxy in the form of Biden as the stand-in.

Or they'll settle for just about anybody for enough change to get a snack to put in their belly.

Brother can you spare a dime?

That is an insult to Carter, comparing Biden to him.

He does? I didn’t know that. Biden was accused of plagiarism and supposedly barely graduated due to poor grades.
