Yes we do need them working for the good side, and they are extremely intelligent.

We need the hacker types on our side; they're scary smart.

There are hackers and crackers...

Hackers are the bad guys who hack into a site to steal information for monetary or leveraging purposes.

Crackers are the good guys who check systems for vulnerabilities and report those vulnerabilities to the owners so they can fix those vulnerabilities.

Both hackers and crackers have the same level of skills. It's the motive/purpose that differs.

Note: There are hacking tools available on dark web sites that even a 12 year old can download and immediately become a fairly good entry level hacker.

Not heard the term crackers used like that; as in safe cracker?  I know the term White Hats, and the hackers are called Black Hats. Perhaps the nomenclature is different in the UK, but same diff. I've never been to the dark web but out of intellectual curiosity I wonder if I would be able to hack lol.  I gather that some platforms, like Java, are easier than others.  I don't care how well they say the encryptions are; I won't do any online banking.

Well, first of all, I highly recommend you NOT visit the dark web. You'll be hacked before you can get anything useful.

The dark web is where the worst of the worst hang out. I myself don't even like to visit there as I always have to be at my most security intense mode to even visit them. And even then, I don't do it on my personal PC, but on a throw away set up that I completely wipe clean and rebuild from scratch after each visit to them.

On the other hand... as for whether you could be a hacker or not... on a more minor scale YES... and the tools you can download safely and use for that are located on SourceForge, an open source site that offers friendly hacking tools. The ones you don't have to worry about getting you infected.

hacking tools free download - SourceForge

But please remember, these tools are for personal use. If you attempt to hack anywhere without the owner's permission, you will be held accountable per the current laws where you live.

But if you want to use those tools to test your company's security vulnerabilities (with permission of the server owner) or if you want to test your own personal PCs (you don't need permission other than your own), then you can safely use these tools to find vulnerabilities in the systems you use these tools on.

Many professional security analysts use these tools to hack a customer's web site or internal company server (with their permission) to assist them in strengthening their security vulnerabilities.

On another note, I would be willing to say that 98% or 99% of the hacking tools on the dark web have all kinds of vulnerabilities in them so that the real bad hackers can easily get into your system and not only compromise you, but also use your PC to further their own dastardly deeds.

Love the alliteration of dastardly deeds lol.  Be assured I have no intention of ever visiting the dark web.  From what I understand it's a cesspool of paedophiles, sex trafficking, drug smuggling, porn distribution and the worst of what society has to offer...would be like touring a sewer in a glass boat.

Why would anyone who isn’t a criminal want to enter that cesspool?

For the same reason people watch shows like Jerry Springer or Dr. Phil?  Seriously,  I have no idea why people enjoy watching the misery of others like emotional voyeurs but they must get some pleasure from it; perhaps it's the same with the Dark Web Cesspool smile

Like attracts like. They must have something in common.
