Because kids who have no real social and economic access and opportunities are far more easily controlled, and thus also stop that pesky upward mobility that can challenge the luxurious power structure of the ruling elites.
They need a permanent underclass of serfdom that can be exploited to primarily support the elites in the lifestyle to which they have become accustomed.
That's very aristocratic of them! And everything that's wrong with our society today. They keep pushing us closer and closer to socialism.

We've been going down that road slowly for decades, but in the past few years they've stomped the gas pedal to the floor and lit a JATO mounted in the back to really get down that highway to hell really fast.

On the Road to Serfdom, yes... we're practically at the front door he mentioned right now:
>>>In the book, Hayek "[warns] of the danger of tyranny that inevitably results from government control of economic decision-making through central planning."[8] He further argues that the abandonment of individualism and classical liberalism inevitably leads to a loss of freedom, the creation of an oppressive society, the tyranny of a dictator, and the serfdom of the individual.<<<
As for AC-DC... LOL... I remember that song ages ago, but boy is it so appropriate today!

The irony is that children can be allowed to use calculators to do math, so there is no excuse to not have higher standards.

Indeed. We have technical sector jobs that go unfilled because we have too few AMericans educated well enough to do those jobs.
Worse, lack of education is one thing that helps misinformation / disinformation / propaganda to spread - although I have encountered people with "more degrees than a thermometer" who fall for propaganda and disinformation frequently. Picture a PhD who sends someone $30k to get their share of a $26 million oil contract overage that a former Nigerian oil minister needs to move out of the country.
So while education doesn't really totally immunize someone from pseudoscience and propaganda, it can help. Of course Gwynth Paltlow hasn't gone broke selling her tuna fish oil candles purporting to smell like a female anatomical part, and of course all the other sca m / fraudulent "goop": stuff.

When it's full of propaganda, it just churns out less employable graduates, and industry will continue to turn to India and South America and Eastern Europe for H1B visa immigrants to fill the good jobs.
Those educated in propaganda can look forward to careers in the janitorial and food service industries, where one gets abused by Karens on a daily basis.

If they can get H1 visas.
Current admin will grant H1 visas to those they want to.
Sadly, they probably won't be from India, but from China.

Still playing polotics. Everything they do is political rather than good for the country.
