Health chief unable to cite scientific evidence for flipping position on masks

During seven hours of questioning in a landmark lawsuit alleging the federal government colluded with social media companies to censor speech, Dr. Anthony Fauci confirmed the communist Chinese government convinced him to press for the crippling COVID-19 lockdowns, according to attorneys and plaintiffs who were at the deposition Wednesday.
Fauci, who is retiring as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases after 38 years, also was unable to cite any study backing his sudden change of position on the effectiveness of masks in curbing the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
The court ordered that the deposition be sealed. However, California physician Aaron Kheriaty, who is one of the plaintiffs, reported via Twitter that Fauci confirmed NIAID deputy Cliff Lane convinced him to press for the lockdowns after returning in February 2020 from a trip to China with a World Health Organization delegation.
"Lane convinced Fauci we should emulate China's lockdowns," Kheriaty wrote.
The joint lawsuit was filed in May by Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt and Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry. In October, a federal court granted the states' request to depose Fauci and other top Biden administration officials, including former Biden press secretary Jen Psaki and the current White House spokeswoman, Karine Jean-Pierre.
It's now well established, Kheriaty noted, that the Chinese Communist Party's claim that it had contained the virus through draconian lockdowns was false.
"Lane and Fauci should have approached this claim with skepticism," the physician said. "Lockdowns were wholly untested and unprecedented.
Kheriaty quoted his lawyer, Jenin Younes, saying Fauci "was apparently willing to base his lockdown advocacy on the observations of a single guy relying on reports from a dictator."
Significantly, just days after Lane returned from China, WHO published a report praising China's "uncompromising and rigorous use of non-pharmaceutical measures (lockdowns) to contain transmission of the COVID-19 virus in multiple settings provides vital lessons for the global response."
"This rather unique and unprecedented public health response in China reversed the escalating cases,” the report claimed.
Implementation of lockdowns quickly spread from China to the West, with Italy, the United States and the United Kingdom leading the way until virtually the whole world was locked down.
But "the evidential basis for this global policy catastrophe," Kheriaty pointed out, "was always paper-thin."
A former adviser to the World Health Organization and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has compiled a list of more than 150 studies and articles presenting data and evidence that universal masking is ineffective in stopping the spread of SARS-CoV-2 and causes harm.
'The last thing in the world I want'
The Louisiana AG, Landry, said Fauci repeatedly responded to questions by saying he could not recall.
"Wow! It was amazing to spend 7 hours with Dr. Fauci. The man who single-handedly wrecked the U.S. economy based upon 'the science,'" he tweeted. "Only to discover that he can’t recall practically anything dealing with his Covid response!"

Kheriaty's attorney, Younes, confirmed Fauci couldn't name any mask studies to back his claim.
"Also, he made the court reporter wear a mask because she was sniffling, even though she said it was allergies," the attorney said.
Fauci, according to Younes, said, "The last thing in the world I want is to get COVID."
In June, the "fully vaccinated" and twice-boosted NIAID director was diagnosed with COVID-19.

GOP report ties COVID origins to China's bioweapons program
Challenges assessment of U.S. intelligence community

A report by Republicans on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence concludes there are "indications" the COVID-19 pandemic is tied to China’s biological weapons research program at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
The SARS-CoV-2 virus, which the lawmakers believe was engineered at the lab, "spilled over" to the general human population during an incident, the minority staff report says, according to Fox News Digital.
The report contradicts a declassified assessment on the origins of COVID-19 by the Biden administration's Office of the Director of National Intelligence in October 2021 stating SARS-CoV-2 was "probably not a biological weapon."
The House Republicans directly address the DNI report.
"Contrary to the implication of the [Intelligence Community's] declassified report, based on our investigation involving a variety of public and non-public information, we conclude that there are indications that SARS-CoV-2 may have been tied to China’s biological weapons research program and spilled over to the human population during a lab-related incident at the Wuhan Institute of Virology," a summary of the report states.
"The IC failed to adequately address this information in its classified Updated Assessment. When we attempted to raise the issues with the IC, it failed to respond."
Hillary Clinton, when she was secretary of state, warned in a cable to French officials that research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology could lead to a "biological weapons proliferation concern."
'A smoking gun'
The Republican lawmakers say they have "not seen any credible indication that the virus was intentionally, rather than accidentally, released."
But they claim they have "a smoking gun that definitively resolves the question of the origins of COVID-19 beyond all doubt."
They said they will seek to declassify the classified version of their report in the next Congress, when they become the majority, "to further the conversation."
On Wednesday night, Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio and James Comer of Kentucky – who will become chairman of the House Oversight Committee – discussed their upcoming investigation of COVID origins.
Comer said the committee already has identified people at the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Health and Human Services who were involved in the funding of gain-of-function research – the engineering of viruses to make them more transmissible and lethal – at the Wuhan lab.
Comer explained that the U.S. taxpayer funding of the Wuhan lab when through a non-profit called EcoHealth Alliance led by Peter Daszak.
Jordan read from a message from Daszak to an official with Dr. Anthony Fauci's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Daszak said he and his team were "happy to hear that our gain-of-function research pause has been lifted," referring to a moratorium implemented under the Obama administration that ended in December 2017.
In another message, HHS informed Daszak's EcoHealth alliance that the department had "re-reviewed" the non-profit's grant application, and the "experiments to generate SARS-like coronaviruses" were no longer subject to the typical review process.
"So, they bypass the review process and they took the [pause] off the gain of function," Jordan said. "And shazam, what happens? A deadly virus breaks out in the very place where American tax dollars were sent to Wuhan, China."
Further, the Ohio congressman said, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of NIAID, knew all of that in February 2020, at the beginning of the pandemic.
Instead of informing President Trump and the government's health leadership, Fauci organized a conference call with scientists with a connection to the "get their story straight and keep that information from the American people."
The reference was to a conference call organized in response to Kristian Andersen, a virologist at Scripps Research in California, and three other virologists sending a January 2020 email to Fauci stating they saw strong evidence SARS-CoV-2 was engineered in a lab.
But after the teleconference with Fauci to discuss the virologists' conclusion, Andersen began dismissing the lab-leak possibility as among "crackpot theories" that "relate to this virus being somehow engineered with intent and that is demonstrably not the case."

A scientist who worked for a New York-based non-profit with ties to a controversial research lab in China has claimed that COVID was a man-made virus that leaked from the facility, according to a report.
Andrew Huff, who worked for Eco Health Alliance, a lab that studied viruses, said COVID leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China two-plus years ago and blamed authorities for the “biggest US intelligence failure since 9/11,” Britain’s the Sun reported Saturday.
The lab has been at the center of fierce debates about the origins of COVID, with both Chinese government officials and lab personnel denying that the virus leaked from the facility.
Huff, an epidemiologist, said in his new book, “The Truth About Wuhan,” that the pandemic was the result of the US government’s funding of coronaviruses in China.

He said China’s gain-of-function experiments were carried out with lax security, which led to a leak at the Wuhan lab.
“Foreign laboratories did not have the adequate control measures in place for ensuring proper biosafety, biosecurity, and risk management, ultimately resulting in the lab leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology,” he said in his book, which was exclusively excerpted in the newspaper.
Over the last two years, increasing evidence has suggested that the virus was leaked from the lab.

Some experts believe that the virus could have escaped through an infected scientist or the improper disposal of waste from the facility. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of the World Health Organization, told a European politician that he feared that the virus escaped from the lab in “a catastrophic accident” in 2019, according to a report in the Daily Mail earlier this year.
Huff is a former vice president of EcoHealth Alliance, a New York-based nonprofit that studies infectious diseases. The group has been studying different coronaviruses in bats for more than a decade with funding from the National Institutes of Health, and had forged close ties to the Wuhan lab.
Huff, who worked at EcoHealth Alliance from 2014 to 2016, said the nonprofit helped the Wuhan lab put together the “best existing methods to engineer bat coronaviruses to attack other species” for many years.
“Foreign laboratories did not have the adequate control measures in place for ensuring proper biosafety, biosecurity, and risk management…” Dr. Huff wrote in his book.
“China knew from day one that this was a genetically engineered agent,” Huff wrote. “The US government is to blame for the transfer of dangerous biotechnology to the Chinese.
“I was terrified by what I saw,” the Army veteran from Michigan told the Sun. “We were just handing them bioweapon technology.”
The Wuhan Institute of Virology, a state-run and -funded research facility home to China’s riskiest coronavirus research, has been under immense pressure by the ruling Chinese Communist Party to produce scientific breakthroughs to raise China’s global status despite lacking resources, according to a recent investigation published by ProPublica/Vanity Fair.

In 2023, the state of Texas will resume the construction of border walls along the United States-Mexico border, effectively completing a portion of the multistate project launched by former President Donald Trump.
“More border wall is going up next month,” Abbott wrote on his Twitter account.
The continuation of the border wall will begin next year after reaching a deal with private property owners.
“It took months to negotiate with private property owners on the border for the right to build on their property. We now should be building more border wall all of next year,” he concluded.

Abbott’s renewed urgency for completing Texas’ commitment to the border wall might have something to do with a Wednesday tweet, in which the governor characterized the record-breaking number of illegal crossings at the southern border as “unsustainable.”
Abbott wrote, “El Paso official says illegal border crossing numbers ‘are unsustainable’ days before Title 42 expires. It’s the direct result of 2 years of inaction from the Biden Admin. While Biden drags his feet, Texas will do whatever it takes to protect our state.”

Schools don’t tell them they are the wrong gender, they give them a place to explore it. It’s trendy right now, so they are trying it out. I suspect if they haven’t been completely damaged by drugs or surgery, a majority will decide they aren’t trans and go back to what they were before. The numbers before are probably more consistent with the actual numbers. It’s not a lifestyle choice but a compulsion. I’ve known some trans people who work at a local store that doesn’t discriminate in hiring people who work with the public. It’s very obvious those people aren’t faking it.
