New Heritage Foundation Study: Youth Suicide Rates Are “SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER” in States Where Puberty Blockers, ‘Trans Drugs’ Are Easily Accessible For Children

A new study by the Heritage Foundation has revealed staggering evidence showing that access to puberty blockers and other ‘trans-affirming drugs causes a higher likelihood of youth suicide.
 
The study, which was conducted by Dr. Jay Greene, comes in response to a growing number of states and legislators who are pushing these damaging drugs – which have been traditionally used to chemically castrate sex offenders and pedophiles – as a solution to the skyrocketing suicide rate in the US that’s being driven by the left’s insane gender ideology.
 
But in reality, the ‘cure’ has done nothing but exasperate the problem – and Greene proves it by breaking the data down state by state.
 
Greene found that in states that allow minors to receive drugs like puberty blockers for gender affirmation, the rate of suicide among young people aged 12-23 is substantially higher (1.6 additional suicides per 100,000) than in states which do not allow easy access to these transgender drugs. Additionally, when accounting for only the states that allow minors access to gender reassignment procedures without parental consent, the suicide rate gets even worse, ballooning to 3.5 additional suicides per 100,000 – a massive increase, when the baseline rate for youth suicide is 11.1 per 100,000.
 
From the Heritage Foundation Study:
 
By 2020, there are about 1.6 more suicides per 100,000 people ages 12 to 23 in states that have a policy allowing minors to access health care without parental consent than in states without such a policy. The average state suicide rate in this age group between 1999 and 2020 was 11.1, making an additional 1.6 suicides per 100,000 an increase of 14 percent in the suicide rate.
 
Without making any adjustments, suicide rates among those ages 12 to 23 (blue line) begin to spike in states that have provisions that allow minors to access health care without parental consent relative to states that have no such provision around 2016, after cross-sex medical interventions became more common. By 2020, there are about 3.5 more suicides per 100,000 people ages 12 to 23 in states with easier access than in states without an access provision. 
 
Greene’s data shows that the problem has exploded over the last decade-plus as the gender reassignment drugs became more widely available and easily accessible. In fact, there wasn’t even a distinguishable difference in suicide rates between states that had allowed access or not as recently as 2010, but, by 2015, a massive gap had formed. And, by 2020, the problem is becoming as clear as day – these drugs and destructive policies are most likely causing more youth suicides.
 
Unsurprisingly, the skyrocketing suicide rate also mirrors Google search data for “puberty blockers” – with both experiencing a sharp uptick in 2015.
 
The study continues:
 
“Lowering legal barriers to make it easier for minors to undergo cross-sex medical interventions without parental consent does not reduce suicide rates—in fact, it likely leads to higher rates of suicide among young people in states that adopt these changes…
 
…It is clear that the presence of a state-level provision for minors to access health care without parental consent makes no difference in suicide rates among those ages 12 to 23 until about 2010, when the suicide rate begins to drift up in states with easier access.
 
In the past several years, the suicide rate among those ages 12 to 23 has become significantly higher in states that have a provision that allows minors to receive routine health care without parental consent than in states without such a provision. Before 2010, these two groups of states did not differ in their youth suicide rates. Starting in 2010, when puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones became widely available, elevated suicide rates in states where minors can more easily access those medical interventions became observable.”
 
Just like with other studies, Greene concludes that “gender-affirming” interventions like drugs and reassignment surgery to prevent suicide fails, and actually makes the problem worse for children struggling with gender dysphoria (diagnosed at about 1 in 35,000-100,000) – let alone the children who are trying to fit in amid the transgender social contagion.

The woke mob’s sick agenda of making it “normal” for kids to think they are a different gender is growing by the minute with the left basically “grooming” young children. And It doesn’t help that corporations such as Disney have deemed it acceptable by including trans and gay characters in their movies. 
 
According to a new report conducted by UCLA’s Williams Institute, 1.4 percent of U.S. teenagers over the age of 13 identify as transgender, that number has nearly doubled in the last few years. 
 
The study’s lead author Jody Herman said the numbers suggests that the current climate of the world has been the driving factor in why so many young adults are identifying as something they biologically are not. 
 
“These new estimates show us that current policy debates regarding access to gender-affirming care and the ability to participate in team sports likely impact more youth than we previously thought.” 
 
The Biden administration has doubled down on “gender-affirming care” by threatening states that their funding would be stripped if they denied minors from receiving care such as puberty blockers and sex-change surgery. 
 
Meanwhile, President Joe Biden previously released a video condemning parents who refuse to just allow their child to make a life-alternating decision about their bodies. 
 
Adolescent’s brains are not even fully formed until at least the age of 25, yet the left continues to aim their “born in the wrong body” propaganda narrative on children, who in most cases don’t think twice about it until it’s brought to their attention.

This is one case where I think the authors are missing the point. Transgender suicide attempts are do to excessive bullying and other factors, not the drugs. In fact, they are probably less likely to attempt suicide if they are able to transition when they want to, if they really want to.  But it’s a very complex issue.  Maybe all people who identify as transgender should be in intense therapy with good psychologists, not just those who will rubber stamp their wishes.

This isn't about drugs... it's about grooming kids in school to choose a gender they like. Nothing about drugs. And they use scare tactics on the kids to get them to reconsider their real gender and perhaps they should consider being transgender instead.
 
Are drugs really that rampant for 13 year old kids? Maybe some really bad schools, but for the most part, I would hope not.

There is a push to get the drugs before puberty. I can understand that because then they don’t develop male characteristics, or female. But then they lose the chance to change their minds.

If puberty blocking drugs are allowed without parental consent... we.. I want to call those who do it behind the parents backs {explicative}!

Puberty blockers should not be allowed in K1-K12.

There are numerous stories of kids who felt one way when they were young and then grew out of it as they grew older.

Once puberty blockers are administered... it alters various physical and mental aspects of one's body. And thus, until that person is an adult, and make the decision on their own, it shouldn't be offered.

Likewise with grooming... until that person is an adult, and make the decision on their own, it shouldn't be done.

According to a new study, almost half of the 1.6 million Americans who identify as transgender are teenagers or young adults, and some of the highest rates of youth gender transition are occurring in blue states.
 
A study by the University of California Los Angeles Williams Institute found that gender transition rates differed between the states. New York led the pack with a 3% rate among youth, while Wyoming came in at only 0.6%.
 
The study showed that estimates for the percentage of adults who identify as transgender range from 0.9% in North Carolina to 0.2% in Missouri.
 
The percentage of minors who now identify as transgender has nearly doubled since its last estimate in 2016. Transgender youth has reached about 18% of the transgender-identified population in the U.S., up from 10%.
 
According to the study, nearly a fifth of the transgender population is aged 13-17.
 
The states with the highest proportion of transgender youth were Democrat-led and generally more permissive of classroom instruction on gender identity and sexual orientation.
 
States such as New York lead the trend, as state education guidance includes teaching about sexuality and gender identity. According to the study, New York has nearly double the national rate of youth gender transition.
 
The national average of youth who identify as transgender is about 1.43%. But in Maryland, where Education Department officials included gender identity in state sex-ed standards, the number of youth identified as transgender has reached 2.08%. 
 
In California, state law requires schools to teach students about gender transition and sexual orientation, according to the Los Angeles Times. Unlike New York, the rate of youth gender transition is not relatively as high, remaining under 2%.
 
Experts and medical professionals have suggested that the surging rates of gender transition among minors result from the concept of social contagion. 
 
Erica Anderson, a transgender psychologist who works with transgender children, has said that social media is to blame.
 
Gender transition has become trendy and young people influenced by social media are driving the massive uptick in people deciding to transition, Anderson argues. 
 
Members of Gen Z are twice as likely to identify as transgender compared to millennials, three and a half times as likely as Generation X, and more than twenty times as likely as Baby Boomers, according to a 2022 Gallup poll.
 
Comedian Bill Maher recently challenged this trend.
 
Maher joked that at the current rate, we’re all going to be gay by 2050. His point was that there must be some level of questioning concerning whether this is a trendy topic for kids.
Even uber-liberal Bill Maher is questioning the recent surge in numbers of gay and trans youth.

They are dangerous.  The testimony of the young woman who went through surgery and then regretted it was heartbreaking. Once someone has it, they are sterile and can’t ever have a child.  At 12 that may not seem like a big deal if they even know it, but as an adult, it might.

Yes it is dangerous and heartbreaking... it's also mentally destabilizing too... not to mention that the actual surgery... should they go that far is also quite painful too.

And to think schools are introducing school age kids to their own Planned Parenthood office right inside of the school for tutoring/grooming without parent's consent is... well... should be illegal!

That has been going on for a while. Parents complained and were told it’s none of their business. A HS principal complained and retired not long after.
