Crime and Homelessness in Portland Have Cost Oregon Over a Billion Dollars as Residents Flee

By Mike LaChance

Homelessness and crime in Portland are costing the state of Oregon serious money.

According to recent analysis, the county of Multnomah, where Portland is located, has lost over a billion dollars as residents have fled the area.

This is not surprising to anyone who has been paying attention. Portland has allowed far left radicals like Antifa to run wild with no consequences for years now.

FOX News reports:

Oregon county lost $1 billion in 2020 as residents fled crime, homelessness: ‘It’s like Portland died’

Multnomah County, where Portland, Oregon, is located, reportedly lost more than $1 billion in income between 2020 and 2021 as a result of residents fleeing the state amid surging crime, homelessness and safety concerns.

Data analysis conducted by Oregon Live showed that 14,257 tax filers and their dependents left Multnomah County during the first year of the pandemic in 2020 and took a record $1 billion of income with them.

The data showed that higher earners were more likely to leave since their jobs could be done remotely during coronavirus shutdowns, and the average income of people leaving was 14% higher than people who left the year before.

FOX 12 in Oregon has more:

Portland is one of the fastest-shrinking US cities

Census data shows Portland lost the sixth-most people in the U.S. in the last year.

After 15 straight years of growth, Portland’s population began declining in 2020.

Amanda Ghest has lived in Portland for about 15 years. She says she enjoys it and is troubled to hear many are packing up and leaving.

“I know it’s been really tough for a lot of people through the pandemic,” Ghest said. “It’s been hard to see Portland at the forefront of some of those tensions.”

The data shows Portland lost 8,308 people from July 1, 2021 to July 1, 2022…

The Portland Business Alliance said these trends are concerning in its 2023 State of the Economy report. It says there are high and rising vacancy rates in downtown offices and increased crime. Addressing the city’s population it says, “People and businesses vote with their feet, and they are not voting for Portland, the city or the region, in the way they have in the recent past.”

How much worse will things have to get before the people who live there demand real changes?

People in charge aren’t economists or planners and they can’t see the future impact decisions will have. They give in to emotion and make bad financial decisions.  Defunding police could only have one result.

He's 2.5 years too late. Nothing can be done now!!! So stop sniveling and fix the mess in your Sanctuary city you were so proud of 2.5 years ago. Either crack down on Biden or shut up!!! And a warning is not a crack down.

Adams warns Biden’s inaction on migrant crisis will ‘decimate’ NYC

By Isabel Keane and Bernadette Hogan
August 10, 2023 9:21am

Mayor Adams issued yet another dire warning to President Biden Thursday — for the 36th time — predicting that the migrant crisis would eventually “decimate” the Big Apple if more federal funding doesn’t come fast.

“New York City is the economic engine of this entire state and country,” Adams told CBS Mornings. “If you decimate this city, you’re going to decimate the foundation of what’s happening. There’s a lot of blame to go around.”

Hizzoner has now asked Biden roughly three dozen times

for assistance in combating the mushrooming humanitarian crisis, based on numbers compiled by The Post.

But Biden has promised no extra money and pledged no added assistance — and, in fact, Adams revealed he hasn’t actually engaged directly with the president this year.

Adams warned on Thursday that the lack of action in handling the migrant crisis will “decimate” New York City.

“We communicated with the White House several times,” the mayor said when asked if he’d spoken personally with Biden.

“We have … a contingent from Homeland Security that’s here now,” he added, without elaborating.

On Thursday, the mayor met behind closed doors for 30 minutes with one of Biden’s top aides, Tom Perez — a sit-down that’s come more than a year after the asylum seeker saga started to erupt.

“It was a good conversation, it was an introductory meeting. We had an opportunity to speak with him about New York’s priorities,” said the mayor’s Chief of Staff Camille Joseph Varlack.

“We talked about sites, we talked about decompression, we talked about legal strategies and work authorization pathways.”

The dialogue unfolded less than 24 hours after Hizzoner forewarned the projected cost of caring for tens of thousands of asylum seekers could potentially set the Big Apple back a staggering $12 billion.

Adams has long begged the Biden administration for more support to cover the cost of providing shelter and social services to asylum seekers.

The feds, so far, have contributed or promised a mere $142 million.

Adams’ aide wouldn’t give specifics when asked if Perez was probed about the so-far “insufficient” influx of federal cash.

“We had conversations about how we can get additional resources to New York City writ large, on a whole host of areas, including, as you know, we have approximately 20,000 children in our care,” Varlack said.

Adams has met with Perez before, when the mayor went down to Washington, DC, on July 27 to press the White House for additional federal funds to help refill the city’s coffers and expedited work papers for recent arrivals so they can exit the shelter system.

ew York's 'Right To Shelter' Law Now Has Mayor Adams Saying "Go Away"

BY TYLER DURDEN
TUESDAY, AUG 15, 2023 - 10:10 PM

After having rolled out the welcome mat, New York City Mayor Eric Adams now tells illegal immigrants to look elsewhere.

A Right to Shelter

The Wall Street Journal explains Why New York Is a Magnet for Migrants

More than 81,000 migrants have come to New York from the southern border since last spring. On May 13, Mayor Eric Adams deemed the Roosevelt an arrival center for migrants. Most of its occupants are families, but it functions mainly as an intake center for new arrivals. It delivers a “range of legal, medical, and reconnection services, as well as placement, if needed, in a shelter or humanitarian relief center,” according to a city press release.

The city has at least 176 emergency shelters in such places as school gyms and churches, and the number keeps growing.

“Because Chicago, Philadelphia, etc. don’t have a right to shelter—anything like New York’s—New York has the much larger migrant crisis,” says Stephen Eide, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute.

On May 23 Mr. Adams petitioned a state judge to modify the city’s right-to-shelter obligations under the 1981 consent decree in Callahan v. Carey. He specifically asked for language that would ease the city’s obligations if it “lacks the resources and capacity to establish and maintain sufficient shelter sites, staffing, and security to provide safe and appropriate shelter.” Mr. Adams later said in a statement: “It is in the best interest of everyone, including those seeking to come to the United States, to be upfront that New York City cannot single-handedly provide care to everyone crossing our border.”

Self-Imposed Sanctuary City Crisis

Also consider Eric Adams and the Self-Imposed Crisis of a Sanctuary City

Mayor Eric Adams last week groused that local hotels and shelters are overrun with migrants whose care will cost the city about $5 billion this fiscal year. As New York politicians do, he’s begging the feds and ordinary city-dwellers to open their wallets. “This is not Mayor Adams’s job. This is the job of the people of the city of New York,” he said last week. “We need every New Yorker that has something to offer to play a role.”

Apparently, paying the nation’s highest taxes isn’t enough. Mr. Adams recently floated the idea of sheltering migrants in private homes. How rich considering that city regulations set to take effect next month will effectively prohibit New Yorkers from renting out their apartments on Airbnb. The home-sharing site estimates the new “de facto ban” will eliminate 95% of its revenue in the city.

Naturally, the result will be higher demand and prices for rooms at hotels, including those where the city is paying $256 a night on average to shelter migrant families. Some hotels, like a Holiday Inn Express in Brooklyn, are making upward of $300 a night housing migrants. This doesn’t include the cost of food, medical care and social services, which adds another $127 a day per migrant family.

Meantime, to prevent evictions from soaring rents, the City Council last month voted to expand housing vouchers, which will cost as much as $36 billion over five years. State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli last week warned the city could face a $40 billion budget shortfall over the next three years—most of which doesn’t stem from costs of caring for migrants.

What Mr. Adams wants is for Americans in the rest of the country to help underwrite the city’s progressive folly. Sorry, not our job.

Go Elsewhere

The BBC reports Adams now is handing out flyers at the Mexican border telling illegal immigrants ‘We Have No More Room‘.

New York City plans to distribute fliers at the southern border warning migrants there is “no guarantee” they will receive help if they come there.

Mayor Eric Adams announced the plan on Wednesday, arguing the city could not handle any more migrants as it has taken in 90,000 since April last year.

“We have no more room,” said the leader of America’s biggest city.

Republican-led states have been transporting migrants t

I've heard the term bat s##t crazy before, but this story more or less fits that description...

Mother demands veterinarian (illegally) treat her son’s medical condition: “If my son says he is a cat, then he is a cat”

08/15/2023
S.D. Wells

Veterinary medicine is the branch of medicine that deals with the treatment of disease, disorder and injury to animals. It is not an imaginary field of medicine, as it is based on actual science, but this doesn't matter to certain parents of children who are pretending to be animals. These parents have now gone completely insane and are demanding that veterinarians treat their children because… wait for it… the child says he is a cat.
With this logic, if a child says he/she has a broken wing or infected gills, then a veterinarian who treats birds or fish should have to be legally required to work on that bird-child or fish-child, or at least illegally work on them, because the child and parent say so. Period.

That is exactly what is happening now, across America, as the gender-confused liberals feed into the new movement where children transition into "furries" (kids who pretend they are cats or dogs). One woman, whose video of this insanity is posted on Rumble, is ranting about how veterinarians across America should be forced to work on kids who identify as cats or dogs. You simply cannot make this stuff up. Her son identifies as a cat. She's complaining because she literally took her son to the veterinarian and he refused to treat the boy, telling the mom that because the boy has "human anatomy" that he does not know "how to work on him" or "diagnose him" with anything, and of course because he legally can not work on a human.

Parents of "furries" now suffering mental breakdowns and delusions

The mother is convinced this is a form of discrimination, because she says "If my son says he is a cat, then he is a cat" and "he needs to be treated like one, you know." Yet, she says she's not going to press charges. How considerate of her. She's still referring to her child as her "son," which is odd, if she's mentally convinced that he is a cat, which must be offensive to her son. Maybe her son should press charges against his mother for referring to him as her son, instead of as her pet.

The mom wants to start an awareness campaign, believing still that every parent who has a child that identifies as a dog, cat, squirrel, rat, beaver, or elephant, should be able to take that child to the veterinarian for prescription drugs, fleas, or gender-bender surgery. This, she says, after she just acknowledged that the veterinarian is not the same kind of doctor as a medical doctor for humans, and that he could lose his license for treating an actual child who is making believe they are an animal.

She says any child who identifies as an animal should be able to go to a veterinarian for medical care because "that's the medical attention that they're wanting." She says it's "not fair" that humans have to continue to go to medical doctors for care when they are imagining that they are four-legged beasts. So, now, according to parents who have children that identify as pets, actual doctors need to also use their imagination and pretend their patients are something they are not, in order to "be fair" to people who are obviously living in a confused mental state.

Many gay folks in America dress up as animals to do kinky stuff, and now they are pushing kids to do the same. It's all part of the perverted, communist, liberal, tranny movement where all straight people, doctors, lawyers, veterinarians, school teachers, and daycare providers must PRETEND that "furries" are real animals and must be treated accordingly, or you lose your license, job, and get sued for discrimination.

It's part of the pedophilia "grooming" movement and child trafficking dilemma, as it all plays into perverting children's minds and influencing them to think about sex and sexual role-playing agendas fed to them by the adult perverts via social media, Disney, Hollywood, liberal school curriculum, and now parents complaining about medical treatment. Tune your internet dial to Gender.news for updates on extreme liberals with hidden agendas trying to turn normal kids into gender-confused freaks.
